Tom Karadza is Co-Founder of Rock Star Real Estate Inc. in Ontario that has worked with real estate investors since 2008 to help educate, inform and ultimately buy rental property across the Greater Toronto Area.

With a start in the software industry back in 1998, after a few years of being on the “technical” side of the business Tom decided to join the sales team. And he hit it out of the park in a big way! But he was miserable and felt like a cog in a big fat money machine.

TEDM – Dr. Chris Honey – A Brain Surgeon’s Tales of Excellence & Human Connection (Episode 188) Mar 05, 2024

Dr. Chris Honey is Professor and Head of the Division of Neurosurgery at the University of British Columbia. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Toronto and his doctoral degree from Oxford University as a Canadian Rhodes Scholar. He completed his Royal College training in neurosurgery in Vancouver in 1995 and became a diplomat of the American Board of Neurological Surgeons in 2000. He has completed an additional year of training at Harvard Medical School and is a Scholar in Surgical Leadership.

His research is focused on the treatment of movement disorders and pain. He headed the world’s first trial of DBS for spasmodic dysphonia and published the results in 2021. He was the first physician to recognize and successfully treat hemi-laryngopharyngeal spasm (HELPS syndrome) in 2014. He discovered and successfully treated the first person in the world with VANCOUVER syndrome in 2019. He has made fundamental changes to the understanding of human pain pathways.

In this episode, get a first-hand listen to some of the ways in which Chris’ entire medical perspective expanded through his experiences with patients, both personally and culturally. Patrick and Chris very briefly touch into the politics of medicine in British Columbia but don’t hang out there very long before they get into the delicate nature of brain surgery, the medical discoveries Chris and his team have pioneered, what and who compelled Chris to write his book, his superpower, and his kryptonite! Chris feels brain surgery was his calling and it’s certainly evident in the passion and knowledge he brings to the conversation and his ongoing work. The journey of self discovery really is a lifelong commitment to being your greatest and most authentic self. But what does being authentic really even mean? In its essence Authenticity, is a word we often hear and even use but may not fully grasp. So let take a look at what it means to be authentic so we can be on the same page for this conversation. Let's look at the meaning of the word based on google search By definition authenticity is the state of being true to oneself, aligning our actions, beliefs, and values with our core identity. It's about stripping away the layers of societal expectations and front facing persona and finding the courage to embrace who we truly are.

In 2002 he started a builder program selling furniture to builders to accommodate their show Homes Suites and Decor centers and Alongside that he started an importing company that resold its furniture products to non-competing furniture stores in Canada and the United States. The current state of our world seems marked by a growing divide and escalating polarization. It often seems as though people are constantly at odds with each other, different groups and individuals occur as "right fighters" or "fact checkers", labels such as "woke" and "un-woke" or far "left" and far "right" are now common. But is this growing divide as real as it appears, and if it is, why is it? Are we less willing to change today than in the past? Why is that you ask? Confirmation bias is the tendency to interpret information in a way that confirms our existing beliefs, rather than objectively evaluating new information. It is a form of bias that can influence our view of an issue, our decision-making, and even our relationships. This bias is generally unconscious and is often driven by a refusal to consider information that contradicts our beliefs. Cognitive dissonance is another mechanism that can lead to the reinforcement of our views, even in the face of evidence that contradicts them.
