The Interview with Colin Miller

Who has had the biggest influence on your podcasting career and why?

My high school debate coach – Jane Amelon – and my high school forensics coach – Mary Sue Crommelin. They taught me how to be an effective public speaker, craft a narrative, and use framing devices in storytelling.

If there’s someone, past or present, that you’d love to have an opportunity to go to dinner with, who would that be and why?

I remember from college that Socrates never wrote anything and that what we know of his teachings comes from his student, Plato. I’d love to have dinner with Socrates to hear him in his own words and get his take on the current state of the world.

What is it, about your audience, that continues to surprise you?

I’m constantly surprised by our audience’s desire to learn the nuances of the law. Whenever I worry that we’re delving to deeply into legal analysis, our audience always surprising me by asking for more.

In one word, how would your best friends describe you? Why do you think that is?

Dependable. I think my friends consider me to be someone who is timely, reliable, and always willing to lend a helping hand.

If you had one day, completely free, away from work, no watch on, and could do whatever the hell you wanted, what would it be and why?

(1) Go to the beach with my wife; (2) read a good book; (3) watch a good movie; (4) play a good tennis match; (5) have a meal at one of my favorite restaurants.
