The Interview
Who has had the biggest influence on your podcasting career and why?
I’ve tried to learn as much as I can from listening to other hosts and how they structure an interview or even a single question. Great hosts like Elvis Mitchell, Kevin Pollak, Marc Maron and Chris Hardwick have influenced me more than they will ever know.
If there’s someone, past or present, that you’d love to have an opportunity to go to dinner with, who would that be and why?
Harry Truman. Smart, tough, and I know he would enjoy a nice bourbon or two.
What is it, about your audience, that continues to surprise you?
Their range. We have listeners who are high school students just starting to learn about business and investing. We’ve also got Wall Street professionals tuning in every week. To have that range is both surprising and great.
In one word, how would your best friends describe you? Why do you think that is?
When my friends are together and I’m not there, my hunch is they use words to describe me that cannot be printed here.
If you had one day, completely free, away from work, no watch on, and could do whatever the hell you wanted, what would it be and why?
I love my busy life, but I think I’d spend a free day by myself. Pop in my earbuds, stream some music and visit a few Smithsonian museums. Then head to Hill Country BBQ (no relation) in downtown DC for a great meal.
Any advertisers you want to give a shout out to? Or anyone you’d like to thank ?
Even though we’ve been podcasting since 2009, we’ve only had advertisers for the past year. Our partners at Podtrac/Authentic have been fantastic to work with, in part because they’re finding advertisers who are a great fit for our growing audience.
