Ali Ibn Abi Talib Ibn Abd al Muttalib Ibn Hashim Ibn Abd Manaf was born in the Sacred House (i.e. the Kaaba) in Mecca. Ali belonged to the clan of Banu Hashim, the most distinguished clan in all Arabia; and in Banu Hashim, he belonged to the most distinguished family – the family of Abdul Muttalib; his father was Abu Talib. His mother was Fatima, daughter of Asad Ibn Hashim Ibn Abd Manaf RA. She was like a mother to the Prophet ﷺ and his family, and he (the Prophet ﷺ) was brought up under her care. Ali RA had three brothers - Ja'far ibn Abī Tālib,Aqeel ibn Abi Talib and Talib ibn Abi Talib. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, gave his only daughter, Fatima Zahra, in marriage to Ali. Allah blessed this marriage with children who were Allah's most devout servants. Ali deserved the nicknames that adorned his life and some among them are - Al-Amīr al-Mu'minīn (The Commander of the Faithful), Abu Turab (Father of Dust/Soil) and Asadullāh (Lion of God). Ali is revered for his courage, knowledge, belief, honesty to Islam, deep loyalty to Muhammad ﷺ and generosity in forgiving his defeated enemies. He was an embodiment of magnanimous traits such as that of a poet, a soldier, and a saint. Lives Of The Sahaba 29- Uthman b. Affan - PT 09 May 04, 2016
    Show notes

In this video, Shaykh Yasir Qadhi touches base on the innumerable hadith that have reference to Uthman RA , have been directed at him or have been told by himself in his lifetime. Aisha (RA) reported that the Prophet ﷺ said (to Uthman RA), “O Uthman perhaps Allah may clothe you with a shirt. So, if people try to take it away from you, do not remove it for them.” [Musnad Ahmad] Jabir RA reported that funeral of a man was brought before the Prophet ﷺ that he may lead the funeral salah. But he did not pray over it. Someone said: "O Messenger of Allah, we have never seen you neglect the salah over anyone before this". He said: "He bore hatred for Uthman, so Allah is angry with him.” [Sunnah Tirmidhi: 3729] Ibn Umar (RA) reported that Allah’s Messenger ﷺ mentioned a fitnah (trial), He said, "This innocent one will be killed in that, referring to Uthman bin Affan RA." [Sunan Tirmidhi: 3728] May Allah have mercy on Uthman RA. We shall be forever grateful to him for being steadfast and keeping the door of fitna closed and secured for however long he could. May Allah grant Jannah to his wife, his servants, Hasan RA and the unnamed Sahaba and citizens of Medina who defended him till the last day. Ameen.

In this video, Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi steps into the final league of the assassination of Uthman Ibn 'Affan RA. We are transported into that period when there is an altercation of sorts between Uthman RA and the rebels and how Uthman ceaselessly reminds them about the various deeds accomplished successfully by him and also how the Prophet ﷺ himself has given him his allegiance. Attempts were made by Ali Ibn Talib RA, Abdullah Ibn Salam, Abu Hurayra, Ibn Umar, Hassan ibn Ali and Marwan Ibn Al Hakam RA to avert a disaster and in the best interest of the Muslim Ummah. But nothing seemed to work and all attempts at reconciliation reached a dead end. The final part of the video divulges details on the eventual death of Uthman Ibn Affan RA and numerous facts are elucidated . Some of these that would be beneficial to share are as follows: The night before his death, Uthman RA saw the Prophet ﷺ, Abu Bakr RA and Umar RA in a dream, where the Prophet ﷺ said "break your fast with us". So Uthman RA fasted that day and told his wife Nailah that today he would meet the Prophet ﷺ. On Friday 12th of Dhul Hijjah, 35 AH, Uthman RA insisted all the Sahabah to leave the house. He opened up his door and began to recite the Qur’an which led to people barging into his room. They indulged in holding and pulling his beard and eventually striking him with a stick. One among them struck Uthman RA with a sword, which caused his hand to be cut off and blood to spill onto the verse of the Quran “Fasayakfi Kahumullah” (And Allah will take care of them for you). Uthman RA said to them “Woe to you, that was the first hand that wrote down the Qur’an down”. The rebels continued until Uthman RA was struck on the neck and that blow eventually led to his demise. Uthman RA was buried in the Baqi’. His death sparked the formation of two separate groups of people - the Khawarij and Shi’a.

In this video, Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi delves about the assassination of Uthman Ibn 'Affan RA and also shares with us the numerous complaints that were made against the third Caliph. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ had made predictions pertaining to the trials between the Sahabas and numerous hadith support these statements as have been shared with us by the Shaykh. A significant one among these is a statement made by Hudhaifa RA who says - "The start of the trials is the murder of Uthman, and the end of it is when the Dajjal comes" Next, Shaykh Yasir analyses the imploring conditions that led to the assassination of Uthman IBn Affan RA and enlists the magnanimously overblown and convoluted complaints registered against the Khalifa. Prominent amongst these are - burning of the Mushafs, lack of participation in Battle of Badr, fleeing the battle of Uhud, preventing people of Madinah from using public land for pasture, performing 4 rak'ahs instead of 2 at Mina during Hajj and many more. Each complaint brings to the fore the reasons behind these doings which is explicitly dealt with by Shaykh Yasir Qadhi.

In this video, Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi enlists and explicitly explains the accomplishments of Uthman Ibn 'Affan RA. Some that deserve a fair mention amongst many are the discussions on the political conquests of Uthman RA (Sassanian empire, Azerbaijan, Turks, Russian Republic). Many more can be heard in the above video. Perhaps, the potentially significant accomplishment has to be the uniting of the entire Muslim Ummah via a single Mushaf (compilation and preservation of the Noble Qur'an) which is used till date by Muslims the world over. He maintained the "ahruf" [wording] and dialect of the tribe of Quraysh in this Mushaf.

Guidelines for Humor and Joking in Islam Apr 29, 2016
    Show notes

Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi lays out what the Sharia says about humour and joking. Numerous Hadith are cited that support the humorous stance of the Prophet ﷺ: The Prophet ﷺ used to joke with the small child of one of the Sahabah called Abu Umayr, who had a small bird he used to play with. One day he saw the child looking sad, so he said, "Why do I see Abu Umayr looking sad?" The Sahabah told him, "The nughar which he used to play with has died, O Messenger of Allah." The Prophet ﷺ began to gently joke with the child, saying, "O Abu Umayr, what happened to the nughair?" A man came to the Prophet ﷺ asking him to give him something to ride. The Prophet ﷺ jokingly said, "I will give you the offspring of a she-camel to ride." He said, "O Messenger of Allah , what will I do with the offspring of a she-camel?" The Prophet said: "Are riding-camels born except from she-camels?" Zahir was one of the Sahaba for whom the Prophet ﷺ had a deep fondness. One day the Prophet ﷺ came to him while he was selling some goods. He embraced him from behind. Zahir, unable to see who he was, said, "Let me go! Who is this?" Then he turned around and recognized the Prophet SAW and then he tried to move closer to him once he knew who it was. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Who will buy this slave?" Zahir said,"O Messenger of Allah, you will find me unsellable." The Prophet ﷺ said, "But in the sight of Allah SWT you are valuable." Conditions and etiquette for cracking jokes: There cannot be anything intrinsically Haram in it. One cannot terrify the other believer with his jokes. We should not laugh excessively as it deadens the heart. It is Haram if we joke against Allah and His Messenger ﷺ. There cannot be blatant lying in the jokes we make.

The Prophet's First Madinan Advice (Hadith of Peace) Apr 09, 2016
    Show notes

When our Prophet ﷺ migrated from Makkah to Madinah, as he entered the city, he gave a prophetic advice which has been recorded in vivid detail by an eyewitness account who was none other than the chief rabbi of Madinah - Abdullah bin Salaam. Narrated in an authentic hadith in at-Tirmidhi, 'Abdullah bin Salaam said: "When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived- meaning in Al-Madinah – the people came out to meet him. It was said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had arrived, so I went among the people to get a look at him. When I gazed upon the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, I knew that this face was not the face of a liar. The first thing that he spoke about was that he said: 'O people, feed the hungry, spread Salaam (greeting of peace), maintain your kin relationships, and pray at night while others are asleep. With this, you shall enter Heaven in peace.'" [Sahih] Due to its grave importance and captivating lessons, it is called the hadith of Salaam. Join Shaykh Yasir Qadhi as he explains the four significant principles this hadith highlights which will eventually lead you to Jannah, in sha Allah.
