We LOVE to read comments so please leave a comment and subscribe to Our channel: https://www.youtube.com/writerslifeorg Grab your free writer's toolkit by going to http://www.writerslife.org/finish-your-book ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hello its Peter here again from Writer's life and today how to set a scene like a pro when it comes to writing a book setting the scene so it draws the reader in and creates a platform for the action that's about to unfold is so essential all great writers need to learn how to paint a picture how to create a setting that appeals to the senses and allows readers to become immersed in it as if they were there themselves becoming a master at scene setting takes time and practice you are setting the scene from a particular character's point of view and the reader therefore sees it as they would so considering that character's personality use of language and the way their mind works will influence which details are shared with the reader what they notice and how that makes them feel seem setting is a great way to prepare the reader for what's to come for example the description may be one big metaphor for how a character is feeling or what action they decide to take next authors do this often using devices such as pathetic fallacy that is projecting human feelings onto inanimate objects to determine the mood to indirectly demonstrate how a character is feeling or letting the reader know what's in store for them next the basics of scene setting requires a writer to think about the senses a well set C will appeal to all five senses thus really giving the reader an idea of what it is like to be there every time you write a new scene it's therefore a good idea to think about the five senses and try to include a disc that appeals to all of them it's all too easy just to describe what a character sees and forget to mention what he or she hears smells feels or tastes creating a great scene is one of the ways that you can demonstrate your own stamp as a writer and really let your unique writing voice comes through some writers are known for their use of poetic language for example others may be celebrated for that smart descriptive words or the way they are very economical and sparse in their descriptions yet managed to pick exactly the right adjectives to precisely conjure up powerful images in the readers mind a scene should not only appeal to the senses but also provoke an emotional reaction in the reader writing powerful descriptions can ignite an emotional charge in your reader if you are trying to get them to feel a particular way or have a sense of what the character is feeling then using the scene to reflect this can make your writing even more powerful and effective at the end of the day becoming a master at scene setting will significant Hance your book and immediately make the reader want to know more about what's going on so make sure that next time you sit down to write you pay attention and take the time to set a brilliant scene and let your story unfold from there and don't forget if you're struggling to write or finish your book our free writers toolkit can help with it you'll learn how to overcome procrastination get organized stay focused find time to write and finally get your book published to get access now while it's still available simply go to http://www.writerslife.org/toolkit that's http://www.writerslife.org/toolkit that's it for now be sure to give us the thumbs and subscribe to our channel for more I'll see you next time

We LOVE to read comments so please leave a comment and subscribe to Our channel: https://www.youtube.com/writerslifeorg Grab your free writer's toolkit by going to http://www.writerslife.org/finish-your-book ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hi I'm Jody from Writer's life at work and today we'll be talking about writing tips for aspiring writers writing is a really wonderful activity personally I really enjoy reading and writing historical romance if you are an aspiring writer here are some tips to get you started the hook the opening of your story should be a hook that catches the reader and makes them want to read on usually you would start with the conflict or point of change in some stories you can however show a bit of the characters normal life before introducing the problem or conflict that changes the character's life the hero's journey this type of story is known as the hero's journey and requires skill to write the main point is that your writing should be deliberate and not a coincidence the first few paragraphs should make the reader want to continue they should be interesting and if there is any background information in the first few paragraphs it should be interspersed with conflict large chunks of background information or description will quickly bore the reader and should be avoided pick up a few books and read the first few pages to see how other writers write them there is even a chart you can follow specifically called the hero's journey google it and you'll see what I'm talking about introduce your conflict introduce the problem or conflict in the first few pages if we don't know from the beginning what the conflict is we may not want to read on after all it's the conflict that keeps us reading conflicts can be internal with the character external between the character and the outside world or both but we all know the best type of conflict is internal background information background information should be kept at a minimum and short stories while in novels bits of background information should be provided in various places large chunks of background information at one place however should be avoided dialogue dialogue should sound natural but should not be exactly like real-life conversation read dialogue aloud to see whether it sounds right or not dialogue should also be consistent with the character's personality if your character seems to be a rogue from other descriptions but the dialogue shows them it to be extremely nice there should be a reason to it does the character have multiple faces are they only that way certain people or have you used the dialogue that's inconsistent with the character's personality every scene in your story it should move it forward or show characterization but preferably both no scenes should be there without a purpose during the rewrite stage ask yourself whether the scene further supply or show his characterization what would happen if you throw the scene out well the story fall apart like a sweater would if you cut out some yarn or will the story remain complete without the scene if the story is complete without the scene did the scene show some necessary information about the character if not then it's unnecessary and should not be included in the story don't forget if you're having a hard time writing or finishing your book check out our free writers toolkit it can help you overcome procrastination get organized stay focused and get your book published just head over to http://www.writerslife.org/toolkit to download your FREE copy and if you enjoyed this video don't forget to give it a thumbs up turn on our notifications and subscribe down below and be sure to visit WritersLife.org for more reading tips and tricks and I'll see you next time

We LOVE to read comments so please leave a comment and subscribe to Our channel: https://www.youtube.com/writerslifeorg Grab your free writer's toolkit by going to http://www.writerslife.org/finish-your-book ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hello its Peter here again from Writer's life and today how to develop your initial book idea there's nothing quite like a feeling of coming up with a brilliant idea for a new book it might come to you in a flash when you are relaxing or thinking about all the things you might see or hear is something that inspires you all you might have added the idea at the back of your mind for a long time and feel now is the time to explore it further however you happened upon your initial book idea it can be an exciting time when you get that first spa knowing what to do with it next however can be a little more tricky writing a novel is no mean feat after all a while it can be tempting just to jump right in and start without researching and taking the time to understand your story idea and whether it can work you can end up in trouble some writers like to simply write and see where it takes them while this can be freeing and productive most writers find that they'd end up backing themselves into a corner suddenly their story runs out of steam all the plots has gotten so complicated there's no keeping track of what is going on or they have backed themselves into a corner and there is nowhere left to go finding out that your story isn't going to work when you've already invested time and energy into it can be very disheartening that's why it's a good idea to take some steps to ensure you can get from chapter 1 right through until the end so how do you do this first of all shape your idea once you have your brilliant initial idea don't stop there spend lots of time bending and shaping it experimenting with it and allowing it to grow think about your characters motivations work out how to add unique twists to your plot push the limits of your imagination by breaking from the mold one great idea does not make a novel so make sure you spend time adding to it and then chipping away at it and then adding to it again until your idea is something much more sculpted and much more powerful as a result next pay attention to everyone and everything it's easy to get too focused on your main characters and too bogged down in the main plot however a good book has minor characters and subplots too and these should be just as fierce and imaginative and intriguing and fantastic as the rest of your novel make sure it has depth and layers and make sure you can tie everything together at the end when writing your first draft write about everything include it's all pack your story full of interesting characters and places and things to make it burst from the page next give it space to write a book you need enough material to keep it going if you find that you're struggling to find enough to say or are trying too hard to fill out your chapters but soon find your book will feel slow and lethargic keep up the energy pick up the pace and if parts of your plot feels slow work out how to add drama to amp them up and drive them forward so you're right a real page-turner next get rid of the excess once you've written your first draft you can now start to strip it back get rid of everything that isn't sorry even if it's brilliantly written you'll know when something has no place being in your book and even though it may hurt to take it out it's the only way to make sure your story is truly great by implementing these techniques you'll take your story from its initial idea to something far more exciting something tangible well developed and ultimately something that you can be truly proud of developing your book ideas takes focus but doing so and allowing oneself the time to truly explore the creative process will mean that your book will be all the better and no doubt your readers will think so too and don't forget if it's struggling to write or finish your book our free writers toolkit can help with it you'll learn how to overcome procrastination get organized stay focused find time to write and finally get your book published to get access to it now while it's still available simply go to http://www.writerslife.org/toolkit that's http://www.writerslife.org/toolkit that's it for now be sure to give us a thumbs up and subscribe to our channel for more and I'll see you next time

We LOVE to read comments so please leave a comment and subscribe to Our channel: https://www.youtube.com/writerslifeorg Grab your free writer's toolkit by going to http://www.writerslife.org/finish-your-book ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hello there is Peter here again from Writers Life and today alternatives to writing a book many of us start out by knowing that we have something inside us a burning desire to put our thoughts down on paper to express ourselves through stories through our words the natural choice seems to be to write a novel this is the ultimate goal and sometimes it feels as the writing a novel is the only way to be a successful writer the problem is that writing a novel is hard it's time-consuming challenging and we all know that there are very slim chances that we will get our books out there published and read by many people so perhaps it's time that writers considered the alternatives to writing a book it's silly that novel writing seems like the be-all and end-all when there are so many more options out there could it be that writers put too many of their hopes and dreams into writing their books when if they had stopped and thought about what they wanted to achieve it might be that an alternative Avenue is better for them but what are the alternatives to novel writing that we can consider let's take a look at some of them now first writing a play whether for the stage or for radio there are plenty of opportunities to try your hand at playwriting imagine access realizing your vision on the stage or writing the next popular radio drama this could be a fantastic and creative alternative to writing a book next writing a blog many authors write blogs anyway but tend to try and juggle these with their book writing perhaps it's time to focus your attention on your blog entirely imagine what it could be if you put all your efforts into it and wrote about whatever you wanted blob writing can be a great way to boost your profile and debate money to the next short stories instead of the mammoth task of writing a book why not consider writing a short story collection writing great short stories requires real skill and is always good practice if you do go on to write a novel later a next poetry have you ever considered trying to write a poetry collection while being a novelist doesn't necessarily translate to being good at poetry it could be an exciting side project or alternative writing poetry can be very cathartic can help you tap into your emotions and learn how to be smart with language all great skills for any writer a next article of course there is also always the option of writing articles as a freelance writer while this may not fulfill your creative needs as much as fiction writing would freelance writing can be a great way to keep practicing and if you write about your passions you are sure to enjoy as well as potentially make some money too and next film or TV scripts why not set your sights sky-high and try to write something for the big screen or the next popular TV sitcom there are plenty of opportunities out there to write scripts and it might just end up making a hit so you see there's no reason why you can't put as much creativity and emotion and as much of your heart and soul into writing any of these things as you can with a novel being a writer doesn't mean you have to write a book so perhaps we should all start thinking differently experimenting with other projects and seeing if maybe we can't find more success and more satisfaction by turning our attention to writing different things and don't forget if it's struggling to write or finish your book our free writers toolkit can help with it you'll learn how to overcome procrastination get organized stay focused find time to write and finally get your book published to get access to it now while it's still available simply go to a http://www.writerslife.org/toolkit that's http://www.writerslife.org/toolkit that's it for now be sure to give us a thumbs up and subscribe to our channel for more and I'll see you next time

We LOVE to read comments so please leave a comment and subscribe to Our channel: https://www.youtube.com/writerslifeorg Grab your free writer's toolkit by going to http://www.writerslife.org/finish-your-book ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hello its Peter here again from Writer's life and today the best ways to enhance creativity being creative is an integral part of being a writer without creativity our ideas dry up we find it hard to concentrate and we can't get into that beautiful writing zone where the word seems to just flow freely from creativity and being able to express that creativity is crucial and makes us happier healthier and more motivated to however even the most creative writers go through periods where they find it difficult for the inspiration to keep coming and it's all too easy to get stuck in a downward spiral once that happens for creativity doesn't like to be pressured and sometimes the more we try to be creative the less we find incomes so what can we do to enhance our creativity and keep those ideas coming here are a few tips first get out there it's hard to find inspiration by just sitting in the same place day in and day out grab your noble and head out into the world go for a walk sit on a bus head to a cafe write down everything that interests you and pay attention to the little details of things next listen to music music can be so inspiring creates playlists of tunes that you know will uplift you energize you and boost your mood the effects of music to make us feel differently is powerful so use it to your advantage and next meditates or just be silenced sometimes you just need to try and let go of everything clear your head and just be silent for a while meditation is excellent for learning to relieve your mind and let go so why not give it a try and next get a second opinion talking things through to make all the difference so don't be afraid to us for help when you feel as though you are stuck with your writing bouncing ideas of someone else and just being around other creative people can leave you feeling inspired and motivated once more uh next my favorite have a glass of wine this might not be for everyone but having a glass of your favorite tipple to put you in just the right frame of mind to get you right in once more and next exercise exercise is known to release feel-good endorphins which will help you relax and feel positive and confident essentially greed ingredients when it comes to optimizing your creativity a next sleep if we are sleep-deprived we are more likely to feel anxious overwhelmed and stressed out make sure you get enough sleep to keep you feeling fresh and focused all day long a next tried something new a new experience can leave us feeling exhilarated and creative so if you're stuck in the same old routine doing the same things day in and day out perhaps it's time to shake things up a little and next write down your problem if you think it might be creatively blocked because you have other things on and try writing them down writing our problems down to put them in in perspective they also mean you have acknowledged them while allowing you to set them aside for a while so you can get on with your writing and so there you have it next time you're feeling a little creatively blocked try these tips to enhance your creativity and sue you should get those creative juices flowing once more and don't forget if you're struggling to write or finish your book our free writers toolkit can help with it you'll learn how to overcome procrastination get organized stay focused find time to write and finally get your book published to get access now while it's still available simply go to http://www.writerslife.org/toolkit toolkit that's it for now be sure to like this video and to subscribe to our channel for more and I'll see you next time

We LOVE to read comments so please leave a comment and subscribe to Our channel: https://www.youtube.com/writerslifeorg Grab your free writer's toolkit by going to http://www.writerslife.org/finish-your-book ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hello it's Peter here again from Writer's life and today how to make each day effective when you wake up in the morning what do you plan to do with your day or perhaps you don't even have your day planned millions of people wake up without a plan or even a goal set to make each day effective you need to set many goals for yourself when the Sun Goes Down and the day comes to a close what do you wish you will have accomplished most people don't get the life they want because they don't live each day effectively the many goals you set for yourself should lead you to a bigger goal the mini course will lead to your weekly goals which leads your monthly goals which in turn will lead to your yearly goals what you do today will impact how your year goes you only have so much time in a day so why waste it when you are setting mini goals for yourself set 5 of them for each day once you accomplish the 5 goals for the day you're done you can of course do more but to keep yourself hungry I'd recommend stopping at 5 before you burn out 5 tasks per day might not sound a lot but that's 25 or even 35 every week in a month you'll have completed over a hundred tasks towards your goals each task you complete gets you to a better life if you find that some goals take longer maybe only set three goals for a certain day sometimes I only set one goal for myself because the goal is so big and I know that I won't have time to complete the other tasks the purpose of setting mini goals is so you have a direction of where you want to go with your day otherwise you'll arrive at the destination you don't want to be ants when you set five mini goals for yourself each day will be effective and don't forget if you're struggling to write or finish your book our free writers toolkit can help with it you'll learn how to overcome procrastination get organized stay focused find time to write and finally get your book published to get it now while it's still available simply go to a http://www.writerslife.org/toolkit that's it for now be sure to give us a thumbs up and subscribe to our channel for more and I'll see you next time
