    Wine Talks with Paul K.

All you knew about wine is about to bust wide open… We are going to talk about what really happens in the wine business, and I’m taking no prisoners. Learn more at: https://www.winetalkspodcast.com/.

I am your host, Paul Kalemkiarian, 2nd generation owner of the Original Wine of the Month Club, and I am somewhere north of 100,000 wines tasted.

How can Groupon sell 12 bottles for $60, and the wines be good? How do you start a winery anyway and lose money? And is a screwcap really better than a cork? Sometimes I have to pick a wine at the store by the label and the price… and I get screwed.

Subscribe now and prepare to be enlightened.

Attorney by day, wine and caviar influencer by day and night. Meet Charlie Fu. Nov 01, 2022
    Show notes

Charlie brings a rather unique view of the wine world. As a human resources attorney by day, his love for wine and his matter-of-fact approach all other times has landed him in the unexpected position of wine influencer. But the story isn't over.

Charlie is also an expert and importer of fine caviar. It is a first to have a caviar specialist on the show.

Charlie calls it the way he sees it and at some point in his pursuit of wine knowledge and appreciation (and he gets it), he stumbled upon the need for proper caviar.

Have a listen to the story.

Not only is she a wine influencer but she is seventh generation of a California wine family. Meet Cecily Gamba. Oct 27, 2022
    Show notes

Not only is she part of an unheralded 7th-generation California wine family, but she is also a wine influencer to boot. Meet the effervescent Cecily Gamba from Gamba Vineyards and You had me at Bordeaux.

All industries need to look to the youth to find a path. Though wine is an ancient industry, the marketing and consumption of wine looks nothing like its history might suggest. These days it takes social media, email, google, and influencer marketing. Cecily finds herself in a unique position trying to move the needle forward on selling the family wines in a contemporary way and preserving the history of the 7 generations behind the family winery.

What is interesting is their farming practices and philosophy. I've been tryin' to tell ya, it has always been this way.

I found her engaging, delightful, and funny.

    Have a listen.

    Show notes

You will learn the passion and commitment it takes to grow and make Champagne. The world has an expectation of the best wines that come from the famed district. Clovis Taittinger from Champagne Taittinger recently visited Los Angeles and I had the chance to reconnect with him in Hollywood.

After a few minutes, I remembered how he is a very philosophical man whose point of view is rooted in history and sentiment. The winery is owned by his father and run by the sister and brother team of Vitalie and Clovis, Taittinger continues to bestow the romance that Champagne brings to any table.

Have a listen, you will find him quite charming.

From Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader to Winery Proprietor. Hear the story of Eva Horton Oct 13, 2022
    Show notes

Eva Horton tried out for the Dallas Cowboy cheerleading squad almost on a bet. You could say it was a "double dare" that most people would have ignored or stuffed off. Not Eva, she is a true and true Texas woman who lives up to her commitments. And after a few minutes of listening to her story, you too will understand what I am telling you.

Flat Creek Winery is outside of Austin, Texas about an hour out of the airport, and plays host to an incredible tasting room, restaurant, disc golf, concerts, wine, and much more. Her dream to make it a destination resort seems fully achievable and cutting edge.

Lessons learned as a young girl taught her to finish what she starts and make no excuses. I was enamored by her energy and even suggested that the industry needs more of her passion.

All these and more questions are answered on this episode of Wine Talks with Paul K.

Ana Rato travels the world virtually half of her year touting the value of a good glass of Port. An elixir by some definitions, Port has its place and it's history in the world of wine.
