Sarah Heath interviews Alexia Salvatierra about what is really happening at the border. What is the difference between refugee and asylum, who do children belong to once parents are deported, and how do we find hope?

Rev. Alexia Salvatierra is the author with Dr. Peter Heltzel of Faith-Rooted Organizing: Mobilizing the Church in Service to the World (Intervarsity Press). She is a Lutheran Pastor with over 40 years of experience in congregational and community ministry, including church-based service and community development programs, congregational and community organizing and legislative advocacy. She is an affiliate professor at Fuller Theological Seminary and adjunct at four other academic institutions. She is a national leader in immigrant justice, co-founder of the New Sanctuary Movement, the Evangelical Immigration Table and M25 (Matthew 25/Mateo 25). Rev. From Lost Cause to Found Cause: Christian Responses to Racist Symbols and Histories feat: Benjamin Wright Dec 10, 2019

Over the last decade, flags, monuments and even certain ways of thinking about the past have become central to an increasingly ugly debate about what America is all about. How should Christians respond as their local college campuses, court houses, and other public spaces become cultural battlegrounds where groups fight for control of the past? Drawing on my own work curating museum-based exhibits of removed confederate statues, this session will begin by addressing the history of those statues, the motivations of those who erected them, and the meanings/uses of confederate statues today. It will then broaden out into a more general discussion about how history, heritage, memory and ritual play out in the present.

Red Letter Revolution: Living Like Jesus Meant the Stuff He Said feat. Shane Claiborne Dec 05, 2019

It has been said that Trump did not change America… he revealed America. The same is true of evangelicalism. Trump has surfaced some very troubling things in American evangelicalism. And Jesus is the best corrective to where we've gone wrong. This is a session about Jesus. And it's about discovering a Christianity that acts more like Jesus again.

Shane Claiborne graduated from Eastern University and did graduate work at Princeton Seminary. In 2010, he received an Honorary Doctorate from Eastern. His adventures have taken him from the streets of Calcutta where he worked with Mother Teresa to the wealthy suburbs of Chicago where he served at the influential mega-church Willow Creek. As a peacemaker, his journeys have taken him to some of the most troubled regions of the world – from Rwanda to the West Bank, Afghanistan and Iraq.

Shane is a founder and board member of The Simple Way, a faith community in inner city Philadelphia that has helped birth and connect radical faith communities around the world. He is married to Katie Jo, a North Carolina girl who also fell in love with the city (and with Shane).

Shane writes and travels extensively speaking about peacemaking, social justice, and Jesus. His books are translated into more than a dozen languages. Shane speaks over 100 times a year, nationally and internationally.

Desire is a very powerful gift from the Divine that we each possess, but it has long been vilified as shameful and dangerous. In the legacy of Audre Lorde's work on the Power of the Erotic, Reverend Sex (aka Rev. Alba Onofrio) introduces the Gospel of the Erotic as a way to facilitate deep connection to ourselves, to each other, and to the Divine through practices of Spiritual Discipline. The Erotic is deeply threatening to systems of domination that seek to control our bodies through guilt and shame, through coercion and violence. So how do we name and claim our desires in the face of spiritual domination and build our practice of noncompliance to evil? Let's find out together. Note: This space is open to everyone, but it centers the experiences of Queer and Trans People and People of Color.
