Show notes

This week there were two major updates in the world of true crime. First, the Portugal police are now saying they have enough evidence to conclude their suspect, Christian Bruckner, is guilty of Madeleine's abduction & murder. This is the largest missing persons case in world history so this is monumental news. Thank you to the BBC, Great Morning Britain and The Sun for helping with my research. Kudos to Ranker writer Cat McAuliffe for the insight into the 1977 Camp Scott Girl Scout Murders. Also thank you to News on 6 KOTV. Flashback, Amy Mihaljevic Apr 29, 2022

Show notes

On October 27, 1989, 10 year-old Amy Mihaljevic, a fifth grader from Bay Village Middle School, was abducted from here all american town. Bay Village is a suburb about 10 miles west of Cleveland. Bay Village is nestled on the lakefront of Lake Erie and has a median income of just over $100,000 and houses sell on average for close to $200,000- $3,000,000. Bay Village is a quiet community that loves to participate in city activities such as soccer, the annual Bay Day Run and of course the Bay Day’s traveling carnival that makes Cahoon Park its home for three days over every Fourth of July. To put it simply it is a great place to live because it is true community, one that looks out for other neighbors’ kids and where you will see people out walking and running almost everywhere you look. That is why this case could be considered one of the most audacious crimes I have ever come across; how did this tight knit community become the center of one of true crimes greatest mysteries, who killed Amy Mihaljevic?

Long Island Serial Killer w/ Maggie Freleng Part 2 Apr 15, 2022

Show notes

Former Suffolk County Police Chief James Burke, who previously led the investigation on the case, had cut ties with the federal investigators during the serial killer probe. Burke, who has been accused of mishandling the case, later served a 46-month federal prison sentence after pleading guilty to beating up a handcuffed suspect who had stolen a gym bag from his SUV in a separate case. "The Suffolk County Sheriff's Office has a dedicated Human Trafficking Unit, which has been operating inside the jail for the last three and a half years," Suffolk County Sheriff Errol Toulon, Jr., stated on Tuesday. "This unit has obtained valuable information and leads that we hope to share with our partner agencies to help solve this case and bring justice to these victims." Harrison, who was just confirmed as the new police commissioner for Suffolk County in December, announced on New Year’s Eve that the department is in “a great place to solve” the case, citing new leads. He stated at a press conference that he is “making a commitment to the residents of Suffolk County as well as the family members.” - Oxygen

Long Island Serial Killer w/ Maggie Freleng Apr 12, 2022

Show notes

Suffolk County’s new police commissioner announced in February the creation of a special joint task force to solve the decade-old Gilgo Beach murders. A new interagency task force including investigators from the FBI, as well as state and local police departments, will try to solve the decade-old mystery of human remains found strewn along a New York beach highway, officials announced Tuesday. The formation of the Gilgo Beach task force represents a renewed commitment to investigating the unsolved killings of mostly young women whose skeletal remains were found along a highway on Long Island, Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison said. “As I said on Day One as police commissioner, I believe this case is solvable and identifying the person or people responsible for these murders is a top priority,” Harrison, who took over the top job at the Suffolk County department last month, said in a news release. John Wayne Gacy w/ Nic from True Crime Garage Part 2 Apr 01, 2022

Show notes

The FBI provided investigative assistance to Illinois police. In 1980, Gacy was convicted of murdering 33 young men ranging in age from 14 to 21. n 1978, after one of Gacy’s victims, Robert Piest, was reported missing, police learned that Gacy was the last person known to have seen him. After obtaining a search warrant, police discovered the bodies of 29 boys and young men in or near Gacy’s house; four other bodies were found in the nearby Des Plaines River. Indeed, the area of the house had emitted a foul stench for years, but Gacy had told his houseguests and his wife that the smell was the result of moisture buildup. At his trial Gacy’s plea of innocent by reason of insanity was supported by the testimony of several psychologists, who diagnosed him as schizophrenic, but was rejected by the jury, which found him guilty of all 33 murders of which he was accused; he was executed by lethal injection in 1994. - Britannica SOURCES: https://www.newspapers.com/clip/97809682/ https://www.newspapers.com/clip/97811240/ https://apnews.com/article/chicago-2a5842ef8ee46f8d43799bc50f390ad8 https://www.britannica.com/biography/John-Wayne-Gacy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5s7WMxSplg https://www.biography.com/news/john-wayne-gacy-timeline-murders https://vault.fbi.gov/John%20Wayne%20Gacy John Wayne Gacy timeline: The efforts to recover, name his 33 ...https://www.chicagotribune.com › history › ct-john-wa… John Wayne Gacy, the country's worst serial killer - Chicago ...https://www.chicagotribune.com › nation-world › chi-c… John Wayne Gacy - Chicago Tribunehttps://www.chicagotribune.com › topic › john-wayne-…

Jeffrey Dahmer Part 2 Mar 18, 2022

Show notes

Jeffrey Lionel Dahmer (/ˈdɑːmər/; May 21, 1960 – November 28, 1994), also known as the Milwaukee Cannibal or the Milwaukee Monster, was an American serial killer and sex offender who committed the murder and dismemberment of seventeen men and boys between 1978 and 1991. Many of his later murders involved necrophilia,[1] cannibalism, and the permanent preservation of body parts—typically all or part of the skeleton.[2] - Wikipedia Two Milwaukee police officers were flagged down by an agitated man with handcuffs attached at one wrist. Tracey Edwards, 32, told the officers a “freak” had placed the handcuffs on him and that he had spent the better part of the evening trying to escape from a nearby apartment where he was being held captive.
