Presser of the Week: Maine Police Dodge Questions About Missed Red Flags Nov 03, 2023
    Show notes

POLICE MISSED THE CHANCE TO STOP THE MAINE MASS SHOOTER Police across Maine were alerted just last month to “veiled threats” by the U.S. Army reservist who would go on to carry out the worst mass shooting in the state’s history, one of a string of missed red flags that preceded the massacre. Two local law enforcement chiefs told The Associated Press that a statewide awareness alert was sent in mid-September to be on the lookout for Robert Card after the firearms instructor made threats against his base and fellow soldiers. But after stepped-up patrols of the base and a visit to Card’s home – neither of which turned up any sign of him – they moved on. “We added extra patrols, we did that for about two weeks. ... The guy never showed up,” said Jack Clements, the police chief in Saco, home to the U.S. Army Reserve base where Card trained. - Associated Press WUSA9 WUSA9

Amy Mihaljevic 34 years unsolved w/ Nic & The Captain Pt 1 Oct 27, 2023

Tips: 440-871-1234 or 1-800-CALL-FBI October 27, 2023, marks 34 years since 10-year-old Amy Renee Mihaljevic was abducted from the Bay Village Plaza in Bay Village, Ohio. Amy was lured to the plaza by a mysterious phone caller who called Amy at home and set up a time to go and buy her mom a gift for her new promotion at work. The problem was there was no promotion, and this person didn't work with her mom. The city freaked out at the idea of a child being kidnapped from their quiet & safe suburb of Cleveland. I was Amy's age and grew up in the neighboring city. We were inundated with Amy posters, Stranger Danger classes, and extra lessons on what to do when a stranger confronts you. Nic & the Captain host True Crime Garage, one of the world's most popular true crime podcasts, and they joined me in 2020 to discuss Amy's case. If you'd like to listen to their episodes about Amy, their catalog can be found on their website: https://www.trucrimegarage.com or wherever you get your podcasts.
