Ellen Blakely raised two amazing children, one of whom is Sara Blakely is the inventor of Spanx, once noted as the youngest female billionaire. Ellen’s perspective on raising children is fascinating. It is clear that she set her children up for the success they both have today.

Ellen raised her children in a household that encouraged creativity and freedom to figure things out on their own. This approach meant that when Sara & Ford would say they were bored, Ellen said, “You have toys, you have friends, go play!”
Both of Ellen’s children enjoyed working from a young age and that interest in working was embraced at home. Whether it was an art business, lemonade stand, or putt-putt golf course, Ellen encouraged her children’s interest.
In many ways, Sara was destined to be the mogul that she is today. The way she was raised paired perfectly with her natural abilities and it is this precise combination that fostered Sara’s talents.
