    Matt and Gus are Joined this week by Rory Glasgow, National Ambassador for The GlenDronach, Benriach, and Glenglassaugh brands for the US and Canada, to talk all things single malt whisky!

    Topics Discussed: Rory's journey into the whisky industry and growing up in Scotland. Rory's first experience with Scotch whisky, tending bar and falling in love with the world of spirits. The history of Benriach Distillery and the unique challenges it has faced during it's time. How Benriach floor malts it's barley and the unique terroir Benriach's location provides to in peat and how Benriach sets itself apart from other Speyside Scotch whiskies. The science and details behind what peat is, how it's used in scotch whisky production and how locations and terroir play a part in the flavor it imparts on spirits. The various barrel and cask types Benriach uses to age whiskey and the unique flavors each can add to a whisky as it ages. A tasting of five wonderful scotch whiskies produce by Benriach including the oldest Matt or Gus have ever had at 40 yrs old!

    Matt and Gus are joined by Bryan from 10th Mountain Whiskey & Spirit Co. to talk about distilling whiskey in the mountains of Colorado, the military connection to the 10th Mountain Division, hunting around the world and much, much more!

    Topics Discussed: Bryan's unique connection to the Dewar's Scotch distillery. 10th Mountain sourcing blue corn from the Ute tribe in Colorado. Mash bill specifics for their bourbon, rye and other spirits. The company's connection to the history of the 10th Mountain Division of the United States Army and their continued support of and connection to the military today. Details about the location of their distillery in Gypsum, CO and their tasting room in Vail, CO in the city center. 10th Mountain Whiskey's support of various military and veteran non-profit organizations. Bryan's own non-profit called Base Camp 40, Warriors into the Wild, taking veterans on hunts around the country at no cost to them. Bryan's transition from active duty to federal government service then into the whiskey business. The upside of taking veteran's with weapons experience on hunting trips, especially if it's long range shooting or shooting coyotes with thermals.     133: Nearly Dying For a Barrel Pick? Jun 12, 2023

    Matt and Gus sip some bourbon and talk about Matt's recent trip up to Louisville and Lexington to visit some distilleries, do a few awesome barrel picks and experience a few adventures, to say the least.

    Topics Discussed: The incredible story of a wildlife researcher who lived with and raised turkey poults to maturity by himself with no contact with any other humans for over a year. We dive into some interesting facts about the negative impacts that wild pigs and their incredible reproductive cycle have on whitetail deer habitat and reproduction.
