When a community faces a crisis or disaster, who’re you gonna call?
If you’re living in any of Niagara’s municipalities, you can count on the Region’s Community Emergency Response Team to show up ready to support. This group of swift-acting, certified staff and volunteers is affectionately known as CERT.
Emergency supplies need distributing – they’re on it.
Sharing relief efforts post-disaster – they’ve got you covered.
Grant Durfey and John Hoadley join the #WhatsUpWelland conversation to highlight this one-of-a-kind team and share stories about the emergency response experience.
Oh, and this team is growing. So if CERT volunteering piques your interest, be sure to act on that curiosity and check out niagararegion.ca/emergency for more info.

For a municipality, purchasing doesn't quite work that way; there's a process. Join us as we chat with Adam Beres, manager of fleet, purchasing, and equipment to learn how tax dollars are spent on projects and what the RFP process is all about.

Why didn't the horse committee accomplish anything? They always voted neigh. Jan 25, 2023
    Show notes

You know how they say you can't complain if you don't vote? Well, to some extent, the same could be said for not participating in municipal committees. Of course, it's not quite that black and white, but as you'll hear from City Clerk Tara Stephens in this episode, joining a committee offers residents an opportunity to offer advice and suggestions, and shape their city.

All municipalities are in a fight for seasonal recruitment, and Welland is no different. Except for the fact that it is. Contradicting statement? Yes. The rationale for the statement, well, you'll just have to listen to what HR Coordinator Brooke Iannuzzelli has to say about this year's seasonal recruitment campaign and why the City of Welland should be your preferred choice of employer.

When a blaze of questions about new fire invoices ignites, the experts are ready to answer that firestorm. Nov 23, 2022
    Show notes

Yesterday, a Facebook post from our Fire and Emergency Services team lit social media on fire. The post outlined that, in accordance with the City of Welland Fee Schedule, Welland Fire and Emergency Services is now invoicing at-fault drivers (as determined by police) for fire department response to all motor vehicle collisions in the City of Welland.

Needless to say, there was a lot of speculation, misinformation, and confusion. This episode's conversation with Fire Chief Adam Eckhart clears up some of the uncertainty floating around the social media atmosphere.
