The Definitive Book of Body Language - by Barbara Pease & Allan Pease

'How to read others' attitudes by their gestures'

Studies have shown the only 7% of our communication is verbal (what we say). 38% is vocal (how we say it) and the remaining 55% is non-verbal (what we do with our body language and our gestures). Intuitively, we often can sense when someone is meaning something different to what they're saying, but ti isn't until reading a book like this that dissects a wide range of different types of body language that we can really learn to decode actions and gestures.

The Intelligent Investor - by Benjamin Graham

'The Definitive Guide on Value Investing'

To invest successfully over a lifetime doesn't require a stratospheric IQ, unusual business insights or inside information. What's needed is a sound intellectual framework for making decisions and the ability to keep emotions from corroding the framework. Benjamin Graham, the original 'Father' of Value Investing and mentor to Warren Buffet, delivers serious financial wisdom.

In the book you'll learn how to value a company (so you know when it is under or below it's fair value), understand how stocks work and how to diversify a portfolio to best manage risk, sound investment philosophies (such as understanding the different between investment and speculation), and powerful questions to ask yourself when making an investment.

The Personal MBA - by Josh Kaufman

    'Master the art of business'

The traditional MBA is so expensive that you need to mortgage your life, they teach out-dated concepts and can't guarantee a high paying job. You're almost certainly better off buying a bunch of books and trying a bunch of things yourself first before making such a major investment of time and money. The personal MBA is a book that combines all of the business concepts you can expect from an MBA, for the price of a book.

In this episode we cover the 5 parts of a business:

    • Value creation – discovering what people need or want, then creating it
    • Marketing - attracting attention to build demand
    • Sales - turning prospective customers into paying customers
    • Value delivery - giving customers what you've promised and ensuring that they're satisfied
    • Finance - bringing in enough money to make your effort worth while

    Originals - by Adam Grant

    'How Non-Conformists change the world'

There are two paths to success: be a conformist or be an original. Both can lead to eventual success, but each require a different approach to life. This book is all about how everyone can be more creative and bring new ideas to the table by being an 'original'. We talk about the things you can do to come up with more good original ideas, how you can spread these ideas, and the mindset required to keep moving along the path less taken.

The Easy Way To Control Alcohol - by Allen Carr

12 months ago, we read and reviewed Allen Carr's "Easy Way To Stop Smoking". We thought, given it was the start of a new year, we'd read and review his alocohol book in case anyone out there was thinking of stopping or cutting down their alcohol consumption as a 2019 New Year's Resolution. Of course WE didn't have a problem with alcohol... or so we though.

Keep an open mind, weigh up the arguments rationally, then decide for yourself.
