What I Wore When | Glamour

Can an outfit change your life? For many of us, the answer is a resounding yes. Welcome to What I Wore When, a weekly podcast hosted by Glamour digital director Perrie Samotin. Every Monday, Perrie sits down with actors, writers, musicians, reality stars, and other influential women to discuss what they wore during a pivotal moment in their life—and why it mattered. It’s not just about fashion—it’s also about the seemingly small choices we make every day and how they affect us more than we realize.

TIffani Thiessen: What I Wore When I Had My First Fairytale Red Carpet Dec 16, 2019
    Show notes

It's Tiffani Thiessen, you guys! Whether you had a crush on her as sweet cheerleader Kelly Kapowski on Saved by the Bell, devoured her every calculating move as Valerie Malone on Beverly Hills, 90210, watched her cook for celebrity friends on Dinner at Tiffani's, or are revisiting her with your kids on Netflix's charming Alexa & Katie, it's hard not to be in awe of how long the actor has been a pop culture presence. This week Tiffani sits down with Perrie to talk about the first time she truly felt like a movie star, what it's like literally growing up in front of America, how her style has changed since having two children, and the '90s fashion trend she single-handedly started.

Amanda Seales: What I Wore When I First Got On Stage As a Comic Dec 09, 2019

Amanda Seales is busy. Among her many jobs: a stand-up comic, a scene-stealer on HBO’s Insecure, a podcast host, and an author of the new book Small Doses: Potent Truths for Everyday Use. This week Amanda showcases her signature honesty to talk with Perrie about what she wore when she first started performing onstage, Rolex watches, fast fashion, the shifting landscape for women in comedy, and the concept of real friends in today’s debatably authentic Instagram age.

Alison Roman: What I Wore When I Interviewed at Bon Appétit Dec 02, 2019
    Show notes

Cook and author Alison Roman has become something of a champion for millennials who prefer hanging out over going out. Her unfussy approach to cooking—coupled with her highly authentic persona—landed her a food column in The New York Times, two successful cookbooks with two more on the way, and thousands of adoring Instagram followers. This week, Alison sits down with Perrie to talk about food, yes, but also personal style and the items she feels most comfortable wearing, the (very) expensive bag she’s dying for but can’t justify, and the outdated fashion “rule” nobody should follow. Alison and Perrie also get into dating deal-breakers, how her feelings about food and relationships can’t always be separated, and the thing she’ll never do on a first—or second—date.

Bellamy Young: What I Wore When I Auditioned for ‘Scandal’ Nov 25, 2019
    Show notes

On Scandal, actor Bellamy Young's character, Mellie Grant, went from scorned first lady to president of the United States and—as you'll learn in her delightful episode of What I Wore When—she might have a pair of Zara pants and Nordstrom pearls to thank. Young explains the very deliberate outfit she put together to audition for the beloved ABC show in a now infamous role she admits changed the course of her life. Also discussed: the time Perrie saw Bellamy on Broadway playing a prostitute in a little-known 1997 musical called The Life; her past life emceeing child beauty pageants and holding temp jobs on Wall Street; and why this southern girl's last meal on earth would definitely include bourbon.

Follow @bellamyyoung on Instagram and @BellamyYoung on Twitter. Watch Bellamy in Prodigal Son on Fox on Mondays or stream it online any time.

Erin Andrews: What I Wore When I Worked My First Stanley Cup Playoff Game Nov 25, 2019
    Show notes

Erin Andrews started working as a sideline reporter for ESPN in the early 2000s and everybody knew her name, whether they watched sports or not—probably because there were so few women in her field. Since then she's risen to become one of the most influential sports reporters in the game. In 2014 she landed a hosting gig on Dancing With the Stars, which speaks to her mass appeal with American audiences. Erin's also had some very public challenges, which she discusses with Perrie. These include the aftermath of the unthinkable violation of privacy she faced in 2008, a 2016 cervical cancer diagnosis, and undergoing IVF treatments. Erin and Perrie also talk about height insecurities, Oprah, and why typical game-day apparel really needs an overhaul.

Follow @erinandrews on Instagram and @ErinAndrews on Twitter. Watch her on Dancing With the Stars on ABC, and on the sidelines for Fox NFL, and shop her fashion line, Wear by Erin Andrews, at NFLShop.com.

Zoey Deutch: What I Wore When I Became a Bat Mitzvah Nov 18, 2019
    Show notes

Actress Zoey Deutch tells the story of what she wore when she celebrated that seminal milestone for any Jewish 13-year-old—becoming a bat mitzvah. Turns out, even being the daughter of celebrities didn’t exempt Zoey from wearing an outfit she now cringes at—a universal feeling for all women who had the task of choosing a special-occasion outfit as teenagers. Zoey and Perrie also chat about shooting The Politician, the item of clothing that acts as an intimidation shield at “scary parties,” the book they both agree is the best read of 2019, the stress of maintaining skincare routines, and—because why not?—her mom’s spaghetti Bolognese.

    Show notes

Broadcast journalist Sheinelle Jones moved her family to New York from Philly for her dream job on NBC’s Today show. Five years later she's the cohost of the beloved morning show's third hour, the co-anchor of the Saturday edition of Weekend Today and a correspondent for all platforms of NBC News. Here, she explains what she wore to her first day on the job. If you think picking out a dress for work is stressful, imagine having to do it with the knowledge that millions of people will be seeing—and maybe judging—it. Sheinelle and Perrie also talk about ’90s style (shout out to Timberland boots and shopping at men’s stores), parenting, aging, her remarkably supportive colleagues, and the fact that she still doesn’t own an “I’m successful!” handbag despite being, in fact, quite successful.
