This is the Life Nov 25, 2022

Show notes

This week we discuss Al's first soundtrack song "This is the Life" which was written for the movie Johnny Dangerously and ended up on the Dare to Be Stupid album. Is this send off to 1930's mobsters a classic or should it be sleeping with the fishes?

Girls Just Wanna Have Lunch (w/ Levi Wilson) Nov 18, 2022

Show notes

This week filmmaker Levi Wilson joins us to discuss the extremely controversial parody Girls Just Wanna Have Lunch. Reportedly the Scotti Brothers forced Al to write this song and despite a few good funny lines you can hear the rebellion in Al's voice throughout. While many think it's pretty low-ranking for Al's output, it's actually one of Levi's favorites. Can he convince us otherwise?

Show notes

This week John Wlaysewski joins us to discuss Al's sci-fi new wave song Slime Creatures from Outer Space which was inspired by a very obscure Thomas Dolby song. While it may not be the most laugh out loud song in Al's career it's definitely one of the most unique musically!

George of the Jungle Nov 04, 2022

Show notes

We were debating if it was possible to do a full episode on George of the Jungle; one of the only covers in the entire Al discography. Matt Kelly said it couldn't be done while Matthew Milligan swore it would; based on the fact that we've got this episode out right now it's obvious who was correct.

LIke a Surgeon (f/Chris Fafalios) Sep 30, 2022

Show notes

This week we kick off the Dare to be Stupid album with returning guest Chris Fafalios. We breakdown the Weird Al Parody "Like a Surgeon"; this song was the first and possibly only time that Al took a parody concept from the artist he was parodying. It's strange that Al never did another Madonna parody after this since it was such a success.
