A Dream Within a Dream by Edgar Allan Poe: Impermanence, Loss & Time Slipping Away Nov 22, 2024
    Show notes

Can anything we love be held onto, or does it slip away like sand? Edgar Allan Poe’s “A Dream Within a Dream” moves from a farewell to a desperate struggle on a wave-battered shore, turning a few brief stanzas into an unsettling question about reality and loss. Henrique Couto reads the complete poem in this short Weekly Spooky presentation. The Legend of Oopsie Poopsie - Dark Humor Meets Grotesque Horror Nov 20, 2024
    Show notes

The locals in New Ellsworth have a story about Oopsie Poopsie. Jon expects small-town eccentricity when he moves to the Adirondacks, but warnings about a grotesque, oversized infant suggest the joke may have something awful behind it. Joe Solmo’s “The Legend of Oopsie Poopsie” turns lumber-country gossip into a creature-feature nightmare, mixing absurd humor with bodily horror and the fear of discovering why the neighbors take a ridiculous name seriously. Some local legends are best heard from a safe distance. Jon may have moved too close.

An everyday medicine became a source of national fear, triggering a massive investigation and changes in product packaging.
