We're super excited for you to watch and listen to their journey and for this to be the next phase of Lighthouse Educator Development.

The LED Project #113: Start Them Young w/ Monique Waters Sep 30, 2018
    Show notes

On this episode we're joined by kindergarten teacher Monique Waters (IG: @itsmoniquesworld) for a conversation about how we can build on the capabilities our students have not matter what age they are. Monique has been a kinder teacher in Cleveland for five years and we had the chance to talk about how she creates student success through her routines that include smiling, breathing, and focusing their minds! She learned this method from Prince Ea (IG: @princeea) and how she uses it with her kindergarteners because she wanted to give them a way to cope in life that they could use no matter where they were. We also had the chance to discuss the importance for teachers of getting into routines with ourselves and with our kids because we had a good laugh about how easily we can through our days off when we lose track of routines. We really love how Monique also believes that her students are leaders right now and treat them as such! It was a lot to pack into 40 minutes, but we're so grateful to have had her on the podcast! If you enjoyed this episode and have found value in our podcast please leave us a rating and review! It would help us gain more traction in searches and share these stories with more teachers!!

During our conversation we talked about the value of both authenticity and vulnerability and how we models them for his boys. CJ also discussed how to "find the you" among your students meaning that if we are struggling to connect with our students we should seek out kids who were like us at that age because we can easily relate. And among other things made the point in conclusion that our job as teachers is to make sure kids feel seen and heard and challenges us to strive at that goal. It was a powerful conversation and you're going to want to follow CJ wherever you can! @realrapwithreynolds https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRGA_FqyigEPmh5U37Yn7fA

    Show notes

On this episode of the podcast we're joined by our friend and Bay Area teacher Tyler Richards! Originally we'd planned to talk about his routines and reading strategies, but it turned into a conversation about education and the teachers role in it. We talked about the difference between having discipline and structure and being an authoritarian. We talked about how teaching is a profession is among the most difficult and rewarding in the country. We talked about how reluctant we are as teachers to talk to people other than teachers about the joys of the job because we assume they won't understand. All of that is to say that this job isn't for the faint of heart and we must find a way to make our profession look more inviting! We hope you enjoy this episode of the podcast and if you want to connect with Tyler you can find him on Instagram @sculptinginsixth!!
