#117B - Imperial Wax Solvent (2008) - SIDE B Jun 02, 2026

Show notes

Flipping to Side B, Imperial Wax Solvent digs in even deeper, groovier, stranger, and full of those sideways turns The Fall make feel effortless. The rhythms tighten, the textures thicken, and Smith’s voice cuts through it all with that unmistakable mix of command and chaos. We unpack the back half’s hidden gems and off-kilter hooks, tracing how this album cements itself as a late-career high point.

Show notes

Bonus episode: For this off-the-cuff interrogation, we get a phone call from the national/international treasure known as Funky Si. Recorded before the release of the latest House of All album, we apologize for the sketchy audio, but it's a worthy listen for the stories and the personality that contains one of our favorite drummers of all time!

#118 - How I Wrote How I Wrote Elastic Man: Steve Albini May 20, 2026

Show notes

Steve Albini left this planet 2 years ago, and we recorded an episode (back in 2024; unreleased) covering his last release with Shellac, as well as The Fall's influence on his own music. He may or may not have been in collusion with Virgin trains, but enjoy this mini side-journey!

#117A - Imperial Wax Solvent (2008) - SIDE A May 15, 2026

Show notes

We drop into Side A of Imperial Wax Solvent (2008), where The Fall sound newly recharged, lean, locked-in, and firing on all cylinders. This lineup hits with precision and punch, channeling Mark E. Smith’s relentless vision into something sharp, immediate, and surprisingly accessible without losing any of the band’s edge. We break down how this era reshapes The Fall’s late-period identity into one of their most vital and underrated statements.

Show notes

We're starting a new tradition on this 'Grammephone Friday'... the lads will be diving into a new series called Random Record Club: 'They are Appreciated!' (Season 2 of WATF), where they interrogate non-Fall albums that usually have some sort of Fall-connection. This first installment features the Country Teaser's first album 'Pastoral-- not Rustic' (1995). Frontman, Ben Wallers, is an avid Fall appreciator and his music across his various projects is well-worth the full interrogation. So let's get into SIDE A!
