    #5 Ashton Eaton: 2x Olympic Gold Medalist on the Journey Through Excellence in Sport Apr 19, 2017
    Show notes

    Ashton Eaton is a retired American decathlete and two-time Olympic champion, who holds the world record in both the decathlon and indoor heptathlon events.

    Ashton competed for the University of Oregon, where he was a five-time NCAA champion, and won The Bowerman award in 2010. In 2011, he won the first international medal of his career, a silver, in the decathlon at the 2011 World Championships. The following year, Eaton broke his own world record in the heptathlon at the 2012 World Indoor Championships, and then broke the world record in the decathlon at the Olympic Trials. After setting the world record, Eaton won the gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. He successfully defended his Olympic title in Rio 2016 by winning the decathlon gold medal and tying the Olympic record. Eaton is only the third Olympian (Bob Mathias of the US and Britain's Daley Thompson being the other two.) to achieve back-to-back gold medals in the decathlon.

    Dr. Jerry Lynch has won 36 International and NCAA titles ass a consultant to some of the top teams in American Sports.

    DR. LYNCH HAS BEEN A SPORTS PSYCHOLOGY CONSULTANT for the past 33 years TO OVER 36 INTERNATIONAL AND NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TEAMS at the professional and NCAA collegiate levels. In one survey,he has been recognized as one of the top five in his profession nationwide.He is the former Sports Psychologist for men's and women's Basketball, Lacrosse and Soccer teams at the universities of North Carolina,Duke, Maryland, California and Stanford and continues to work with several teams nationally. He has been involved with athletes at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado, helping them to overcome fears, blocks and slumps, and to perform up to their potential. Several of his clients have participated in various summer and winter Olympic games. Aside from sports, Dr. Lynch has worked with performing artists and corporate executives.

    David Epstein - International best selling author - discusses his book The Sports Gene. David is a relentless researcher who is more concerned with doing things the way research says instead of how we've always been doing it. To that end, he sets himself apart from others by seeking what science says about extraordinary athletic performance and pushing for it to be tailored to the individual.

    David Epstein writes about sports science and medicine, Olympic sports, and is an investigative reporter. The Sports Gene is his first book. It was a top 10 New York Times best seller, and was chosen as a best non-fiction book of 2013 by The Washington Post and Publisher's Weekly. Runner's World chose The Sports Gene as its book of the year, and the book was a finalist for the William Hill Sports Book of the Year Award, the PEN/ESPN Literary Sports Writing Award, and the National Academy of Sciences Communication Award. It has been translated into sixteen languages.
