GTCC LIVE! We're playing our first live tour this November. Get your tickets here: https://tourlink.to/CyclingClub

We're not even a full week into this year's Tour de France and it's been absolutely bonkers. If anyone thought the race was over yesterday, it roared back into life today.

G's got plenty of thoughts on how Jumbo tackled stage six and Tom's got another fantastic drinking analogy for everyone. There's also talk of a Watts Occurring 10-pint challenge, but we're not sure how far that'll get.

It's a day off for the boys tomorrow but we'll be back at the weekend to reflect on the sprints and Sunday's massive mountain day. See you then.

Breakaway chaos and Vingegaard on a mad one | Tour de France stage five Jul 05, 2023

GTCC LIVE! We're playing our first live tour this November. Get your tickets here: https://tourlink.to/CyclingClub

Woof. The first mountain stage of the Tour did not disappoint - and Luke and G have got a LOT of thoughts about it.

Should UAE have controlled the break better? You'll have to listen to hear their thoughts (spoiler: yes, probably).

And we'll be back with more mountains reaction tomorrow, as this year's Tour really starts to heat up. See you then.

Philipsen at the double in another sprint special | Tour de France stage four Jul 04, 2023
    Show notes

GTCC LIVE TICKETS - on general sale from 10am! Click here: https://tourlink.to/CyclingClub

Jasper Philipsen did the business once again at the Tour de France - much to the surprise of G. He's back with Tom to discuss another exciting day of sprint action and look ahead to the race's first major day in the mountains.

There's plenty of talk about crashing (the dreaded 'c' word), the Watts Occurring prediction league is hotting up, and UAE's tactics come under the microscope again.

Luke will be back tomorrow with his old mucker G to see how the Pyrenees shakes the Tour up. See you then.

G and Luke try - and fail - at live commentary | Tour de France stage three Jul 03, 2023
    Show notes

Recording of tonight's pod started at 3km to go of the Tour de France's first sprint day and... well, Luke and G won't be giving up the day job anytime soon to rival Ned Boulting and co in the commentary game. There was plenty of emotion though, and lots of classic sprint drama for the boys to dissect.

G gives his thoughts on the weekend's action, Luke's got a sprint win to celebrate in Austria courtesy of Jhonny Narvaez, and Laurens de Plus deals a devastating blow in the prediction league by picking Philipsen.

G and Tom will be back with you tomorrow to chat about another chance for the sprint boys.

Vingegaard's stag do? Get the beers in son | Tour de France opening weekend Jul 02, 2023
    Show notes

Luke and Tom are here for the first episode of Watts Occurring's 2023 Tour de France coverage - and wow, what a weekend in the Basque Country. Two unexpected stage winners, a British yellow jersey, and early battles between Pog and Vingegaard.

Luke has his views on UAE's workload, Vingegaard working (or not...) for Wout van Aert, and Tom's already struggling in the Watts Occurring prediction league.

And Luke's doing all this while racing himself with INEOS in Austria. He gives us an update from there, and fills us in on his new favourite team. Something to do with a beer tap...

G and Luke will be back tomorrow for a stage three recap, with the sprinters set to do battle.

Watts Occurring - The big Tour de France preview Jun 27, 2023
    Show notes

The Tour de France is nearly here - and while Luke and G won't be going for an all-expenses paid trip round France this year (there's the small matter of the Vuelta to prep for...) we've got BIG pod plans.

They've recruited G's GTCC co-host Tom Fordyce and the trio will be bringing you five Tour pods a week throughout July - that's right, FIVE pods a week. We've got some big plans, so make sure you stay tuned for all your Tour de France news.

They explain all that in our bumper Tour preview, make their bold predictions - and announce the first-ever GTCC live tour!

The action kicks off this Saturday, and we'll be back Sunday night to review the first two days of action in the Basque Country. Don't miss it.

Watts Occurring - Rest in peace, Gino Mader Jun 20, 2023
    Show notes

The cycling world was rocked last week with the tragic death of Swiss cyclist Gino Mader. Mader crashed during stage five of the Tour de Suisse and passed away early on Friday. Luke and Geraint pay their tribute to the 26-year-old.

Luke’s also been back racing himself at Route d’Occitanie and while he was away, he grabbed 19-year-old Welsh sensation Josh Tarling for a typical Watts Occurring hotel room chat. Hopefully you’ll learn a little more about INEOS’ next young star.

We’ll be back next week for a big Tour de France preview…

Watts Occurring - Netflix's Tour de France: Unchained review Jun 13, 2023
    Show notes

It's the talk of the cycling world - the new behind-the-scenes Netflix documentary Tour de France: Unchained, filmed at last year's Tour. G has a starring role and Luke... is caught on film in his bucket hat.

We called up James Gay-Rees, the producer of the series and founder of Box to Box, the company behind the Tour documentary and the incredible F1 series Drive to Survive. He gave the boys a fascinating insight into how a show of this magnitude is made - and let slip that there may well be a second series on the way...

There's also a listener Q&A and a preview of Luke's long-awaited return to racing this week. We'll be back next Tuesday.

Watts Occurring - What happens after a Grand Tour? Jun 07, 2023
    Show notes

G's back from the Giro - and he's run out of clean boxers. Yes, it's back to reality for our Giro podium finisher, although he's been making the most of his time off the bike with plenty of family time and a few beers.

And Luke's taking the opportunity to give him a hard time on their training rides back at home in Monaco. He's prepping for his next race - Route d'Occitanie - and the pair are both eyeing up a gnarly British nationals course, which they'll be tackling in June.

They're also looking forward to Netflix's Tour de France documentary, which drops this Thursday. There'll be a full review of that next week... see you then!
