Hello, how is everyone doing today? I don't have a new episode of our show today, but I do have an episode of a wonderful show called Forgive Me that I wanted to share with you guys. And I'm gonna rat myself out here. I have re recorded this probably five times because-- I won't lie, I just start talking about the show, and I look up and it's been like eight minutes, and that's a lot of intro time if I'm still expecting you to listen to this show. So [laughs] I'm gonna try to condense all of it and control the rambling, which, if you've listened to Moonbase Theta Out, you know, is not something that we're good at.
But anyway, Forgive Me, right? It is the story of Father Ben, who, to put it in the nicest, most succinct terms, he's a try hard young Catholic priest. That's -that's just the way it is, and they just reassigned him from Binghampton to St Patrick's, a new parish in upstate New York, [pause] and we don't know why. He's very, very cagey about it, and he won't tell anybody. He sometimes is very good, and by very good, I mean very bad, about abruptly changing the subject when it comes up. So nobody really knows.
The show itself is structured as Father Ben taking confessionals from his new parishioners, and he's kind of getting to know the town that way, and it does eventually evolve and tells more of the story of the town, but it's a wonderful way to kind of get introduced to these people, and you know, Father Ben himself. Forgive Me does such a good job at portraying this heartfelt and human story about modern faith that you know, sometimes it's funny, it's frank, it's engaging, and at the same time, sometimes it's a little sad. And- I have no idea how they do it, but they manage to both be respectful and super critical of the community that it takes place in.
And on that note, for all of my fellow religious trauma people, I had a lot of concerns when I started listening to the show, I was like, the Catholic Church is like the main character?? And this Catholic father, priest person, we like him, and we have positive thoughts --- how's this gonna go, especially if we're following the church in their day to day? Like, I was high key stressed out because-- I loved the creators. The actors were really good, and I [sigh] I kept waiting essentially, for the other shoe to drop.
And if this is you, and if you're at all nervous about it--- episode three. Like, I don't know if this was consciously done or not, but, man, they did not waste time. They immediately- like my biggest "mmm- hang on, I have concerns!!" -- episode three, I finished the episode, I was crying, and I was like, "This is great. Okay, I'm good. I can stay here. This is awesome."
And honestly, I could keep talking about it. The show is fantastic, but honestly, the best way to get across how good it is is just going to be to let you guys listen.
