The 2024 International Coastal Clean-Up Aug 26, 2024

In this episode, we provide updates from Volusia County and welcome guests Nicole Weiss, Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP) Field Manager, and Brooke DeRuwe, Permitting Associate from Environmental Management. We discuss the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) taking place on Saturday, September 21, from 8 to 11 a.m. Residents can join the effort at over 20 sites along the beach, Halifax River, and Indian River. To participate, register at www.volusia.org/cleanup by September 8. Participants are encouraged to bring garden gloves, drinking water in refillable bottles, and buckets for collecting trash. Please wear a hat, sunscreen, comfortable clothing, and suitable outdoor footwear. The first 1,000 preregistered participants will receive a special giveaway item at the end of the event. Daytona Beach International Airport has been named Florida's top commercial service airport by FDOT, a title it also earned in 2021 for its safety, aesthetics, and innovation.
VoRide is offering free rides up to 8 miles to and from the DeLand and DeBary SunRail stations.
A new Emergency Management app is available for download to keep residents informed during crises.
Community meetings on road improvements are scheduled from August 22 to August 29 at various locations.
Join the International Coastal Cleanup on September 21 at over 20 sites, and register by September 8.
The FDEP now offers 100% reimbursement for sand placement through the Hurricane Restoration Reimbursement Grant Program for oceanfront property owners.

The Volusia County Animal Services mobile clinic, now rescheduled for August 12, will offer low-cost vaccinations and free microchipping at Chuch Lennon Park in Deleon Springs.
The International Coastal Cleanup on September 21 will allow residents to participate at over 20 sites, with registration open until September 8.
Lastly, children in grades 1-5 are invited to join the ECHO Rangers program, with kick-off meetings starting August 10 at various locations.

Volusia County and Emergency Management Updates Aug 02, 2024

In this episode, we cover updates from Volusia County, and different things happening throughout our community. Volusia County has introduced a new Emergency Management app to enhance communication during emergencies like hurricanes and wildfires; it’s available for download on both the App Store and Google Play. In recognition of its commitment to high-quality care, Volusia County EMS has received a 2024 Mission: Lifeline bronze achievement award from the American Heart Association for its efforts in treating severe heart attacks and strokes. The county will host the International Coastal Cleanup, on September 21, from 8 to 11 a.m., inviting residents to help clean up over 20 sites along the beach, Halifax River, and Indian River—register by September 8 to get involved. DeBary Hall calls on kids in grades 1-5 to join the ECHO Rangers program, which offers a fun and educational exploration of the county’s ecological, cultural, and outdoor resources. Lastly, changes to animal licensing requirements are on the way, with a free pet microchipping event scheduled from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Monday, August 5. Avelo Airlines is set to launch a new nonstop service between Daytona Beach International Airport and Hartford’s Bradley International Airport starting November 8, 2024, with flights operating twice weekly on Fridays and Mondays. In this episode, we delve into Transform 386 with Dona Butler, Director Recovery and Resiliency Department. #DYK Volusia County recently received an allocation of $328.9 million in Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds. The disaster funds were allocated as a result of the devastating storms and flooding events that occurred during Hurricane Ian. CDBG-DR funds are to be used for disaster relief, long-term recovery, restoration of infrastructure, housing, economic revitalization, and mitigation in the most impacted and distressed areas. The county will develop an Action Plan, with input from the community, to identify the unmet needs resulting from the hurricane and strategies to address them. Public participation is strongly encouraged and will be conducted through several means, such as surveys and a community engagement series.
