Show notes
This week on Wrestling Omakase we talk some matches that are really all over the map! If you haven't listened to a 5 Matches episode yet, every week John and the guest each choose 2 matches to watch and talk about on the episode. Then we each choose a third match, which is put up to a vote on the @wrestleomakase Twitter account, letting the listeners choose our fifth and final match of the week! It's a fun retro format featuring all sorts of different wrestling!
John is joined by returning guest Kevin Brown (@darukinoi) of the Bad Wrestling Podcast (@badwrespodcast), and fittingly the wrestling quality is all over the map this week: some bad, but also some good (even one match at least some of you might find surprisingly good). Here's the full list of matches we discuss this week in order, along with the easiest place to find them all:
1. Vampiro vs. David Flair vs. Crowbar, WCW 1/16/00 (WWE Network: https://watch.wwe.com/episode/Souled-Out-2000-9737)
2. Tetsuya Naito vs. Kazuchika Okada, NJPW 1/5/20 (NJPW World: https://njpwworld.com/p/s_series_00532_8_18)
3. BJ Whitmer vs. Steve Corino, ROH 6/24/16 (Honor Club: https://rohwrestling.com/roh-tour/062416-best-world-concord-nc)
4. Kota Ibushi vs. KAGETORA, El Dorado 12/29/07 (https://bilibili.com/video/av81956218, as a note do not try to watch BiliBili matches on mobile as it will only give you the first 5 minutes, but on desktop it works fine and it's free)
5. Triple H vs. Eugene, WWE 9/6/04 (WWE Network: https://watch.wwe.com/episode/Raw-5256)
That's quite the variety of stuff and gives us plenty of topics, including: WCW 2000 vs. WWE 2020, NJPW main event style and whether this Okada-Naito match is about as good as it gets there, the absolutely insane Whitmer-Corino build, DRUNK MATT TAVEN, John attempts to explain the very strange history behind El Dorado in like 2 minutes and probably fails, Eugene in general, and much more. Plus before we get into the matches we talk Hi-Score Girl and, yes, ATTACK ON TITAN and much more, so check it out!
