Northern Revolutions | The Insane Cost of Record Collecting in Canada Apr 10, 2023

Show notes

In this episode of Vinyl Community Podcasts, Rob from Northern Revolutions chats with fellow Canadian Glen Kellaway (Glen Kellaway From the Basement on YouTube) about the INSANE pricing on vinyl in Canada these days. The genesis of this discussion is the well publicized 30% price increase by the major Canadian record labels. Rob and Glen elaborate on the myriad of other factors that make record collecting in Canada much more expensive than in the US including the additional costs we incur from Ebay & Discogs as well as the much smaller selection and lack of deals on Amazon and more. Learn how the other half lives, in this episode of Vinyl Community Podcasts!

Safe & Sound Texas Audio Excursion | Facts on Vinyl Pressings Apr 05, 2023

Show notes

All aboard! On this latest episode of Vinyl Community Podcasts, David Bianco from Safe & Sound Texas Audio Excursion will carefully outline some important tenets of the current state of the vinyl pressing industry. As the need for more vinyl continues to grow, there is a pressing (pun intentional) desire for more capacity to produce higher volumes of new records. With several new players joining this vinyl arms race from the manufacturing side, how will these new pressing plants fare from a quality perspective? How do the longstanding manufacturers address their own quality challenges in their daily push to maximize production outputs? What kind of promises are being made to consumers, and what do future capabilities look like as the vinyl manufacturing space becomes more robust? With a long career spent in the manufacturing space, coupled with his fervent passion for the medium, David will dispel rumor from innuendo, and provide a clearer landscape of what 2023 and beyond is shaping up to look like in the vinyl manufacturing arena. Please sit back, adjust your tray table, and join us for this latest Audio Excusion!

Aloha Buddies! Thanks for joining us again here on Vinyl Community Podcasts! This episode features a conversation with Jason Roxas, Jose Moreno Rahn, and Arnaldo (Fidelios Frequency) where we discussed a number of trending topics in record collecting inside the vinyl community: the recent Bob Marley reissue campaign from Tuff Gong and their (alleged) Jamaican pressing plant, the deluxe 50th Anniversary box set of Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" - complete with the 1974 Wembley Empire Pool performance in London (also sold separately) - and the long rumored announcement from Vinyl Me Please of the Miles Davis: The Electric Years box set. Did any of our guests pick up these releases? Pass on purpose? Or slowly placing themselves on vinyl diets prior to Record Store Day? Plus a special guest drops in to give their thoughts on all of the above....find out who and more on this episode of Vinyl Community Podcasts!

Northern Revolutions | Vinyl Gambles: Wins and Losses in Vinyl Record Collecting Mar 27, 2023

Show notes

Hey Vinyl Community! In this installment of Vinyl Community Podcasts, Rob from Northern Revolutions is joined by Concert Buddie to have a deeper discussion about some of their vinyl gambles experienced throughout their record collecting journeys. Vinyl gambles could be those purchases we almost made but didn't for one reason or another and now maybe those decisions don't sit so well. Or maybe the gambles were chances you took that paid off in a positive way. The gamble discussion then digresses talking about the "miss out tax", plus sharing horror stories of ordering records through the mail, such as poor (read: BAD) packaging or the plight of Olympic hopeful Jimmy the Postal Discus Thrower™ practicing his craft during his day job, using our precious black wax as training equipment. Listener discretion is advised!

Show notes

Buddies! Thanks for coming by again! This video is a continuation of my series on Vinyl Community Podcasts called "Mind of the Record Collector". This episode features The Record Spinner (Dylan) and an awesome conversation we shared touching on a lot of things: his experience(s) on YouTube, as a member of the YMOTVC (more on that later), collecting records during the current "vinyl resurgence", and working in a local record store (how cool is that??). Dylan is a fountain of music knowledge and passion, and you'll find that shine brightly here during this chat. As always, these conversations can also be found on Vinyl Community Podcasts allowing you to take the content to listen to when you want, how you want, and where you want.
