Concert Buddie | Mind of The Record Collector: Steve Herold May 08, 2024

Show notes

Love it or leave it, the series Mind of The Record (er, Music) Collector is back on the airwaves of Vinyl Community Podcasts! This spin around the turntable features our guest Steve Herold, a lifelong collector of music in the physical form. His pursuit of music extends beyond our beloved vinyl - of late he's been feverishly pursuing compact discs for many of the same reasons we got back into vinyl 10-15 years ago. You'll hear about how his collection(s) started in earnest back in the day, the origins of his YouTube channel, touch on where are some of the best places to find cd's and vinyl present themselves during his work travels, and a few references to some Van Halen collectibles (of which he has a few). So many questions, so many answers, all coming up here on Vinyl Community Podcasts!

Northern Revolutions | Collecting Used Vinyl Records in 2024 May 06, 2024

Show notes

While the Vinyl Community is all abuzz about the thrill, adventures, and treasures of the recent Record Store Day 2024 event, your host Rob from Northern Revolutions is joined by Joe from Racer Records to talk about used vinyl. Rob and Joe chat about the "other side", the "less pretty" side of the record hobby and that being used vinyl. The resurgence of the last 15 years has seen a massive deluge of new vinyl but the side benefit is that used vinyl is coming out of the woodwork. Everyone has rare and expensive records (or so they think). There are collections aplenty making their way into the used market. Ebay and Discogs has made it so that there are no rare records anymore, only expensive ones. Rob and Joe tackle these topics and more here on Vinyl Community Podcasts!

Concert Buddie | Mind of The Record Collector: Vinyl Rewind (Eric Callero) May 01, 2024

Show notes

Can you feel it? A seismic shift under our feet, Buddies! For the latest edition of Mind of The Record Collector, I'm joined by the Vinyl Geek himself - Eric Callero - from the popular YouTube channel Vinyl Rewind. Eric is no stranger to YouTube nor our obsession collecting our favorite music on vinyl (and other formats). Vinyl Rewind is a channel that touches on many fun and interesting points of not just our vinyl collection obsession, but deep dives into bands and albums we all love, interviews with artists and creators alike, and does it all with a great presentation style that keeps us coming back for more! Recently crossing the 253k subscriber plateau, and closing in on 500 videos to boot, Eric's channel influences many in the Vinyl Community across our various collecting journeys, and often shares information new to fans old and young alike. In this 'sode we cover what started Eric's journey on YouTube + making videos, trace his fondness for music on the physical format back many moons ago, and why all these years later how finding great music on vinyl is STILL tough to beat. It's a chat you don't want to miss, and can only find here on Vinyl Community Podcasts!

Surface Noise | Latest Freestyle Apr 29, 2024

Show notes

As the saying goes, "you get what you paid for". Set your expectations on low, as our dais continues the chatter from the latest SURFACE NOISE program into the FREESTYLE here for your ears. The boys touched on topic not yet discussed on these particular airwaves: The Beatles. While that lead to a steady viewer drop, we try to pull the plane up with more record talk and some preliminary thoughts on the Austin Record Convention coming next week, and the experiences and Vinyl Community personalities waiting there.

Concert Buddie | Mind of The Record Collector: Harris Pilton Apr 24, 2024

Show notes

Taking you straight across the pond for this one, Buddies! For the latest in the Vinyl Community Podcasts series Mind of The Record Collector, I'm joined by a buddie from the UK - Harris Pilton. I've had some great exchanges with him since I began making content in the community, and we share some similar (and different) experiences and approaches to the hobby that make for a different take in this series. Over the course of the episode we learn about his experiences collecting most of his life, what music shaped the records he gathered over the years, and we touch on inherent (and obvious) differences between record collectors in the states and overseas. Get a nice order of fish and chips and a tasty pint as this conversation is one not to miss here on Vinyl Community Podcasts!

Beer & Vinyl | A Conversation with Plaid Room Records + Colemine Records Owner Terry Cole Apr 17, 2024

Show notes

Fresh from the seat at the end of the bar, we'd like to welcome Alex (Beer & Vinyl) joining the airwaves of Vinyl Community Podcasts fresh off his recent sit down with the owner of of Plaid Room Records and Coleman Records of Loveland, Ohio - Terry Cole. Colemine is a label home to some of the best indie + soul music out today, featuring artists like Durand Jones, Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio (DLO3), The Jive Turkeys, and Kendra Morris (to name a few), and home to others on sub-labels Karma Chief Records, Remined Records, etc.

The conversation touches many points in the history of both the Colemine label and the Plaid Room Records shop itself. Arguably one of the best shops (and labels) in the country, it's a great walk from the origins to present day, and you'll find it (and future conversations) from Alex here on Vinyl Community Podcasts going forward!
