Surface Noise | Latest Freestyle Aug 18, 2025

Show notes

Winding down the latest episode of SURFACE NOISE is this here FREESTYLE segment, where our panelists just can't get enough of the G.G. Allin talk. Following a couple deep breaths, the conversation turns to a deeper discussion on the discography of the band Suicide, and somehow, someway, the Beatles Mono box set re-enters the VCP orbit (don't ask us how). Naturally, the conversation has to include the biggest news drop of the week: the latest Taylor Swift record (the kids call it 'TS12'). Is Taylor the greatest self marketer of our time? Probably.

All this and a deep dive into Guy Ritchie and Madonna movies (wish we were making this up), only on the latest FREESTYLE, courtesy of the gents of SURFACE NOISE.

Surface Noise | Stone Cold Classics + Sell Me This Record Aug 14, 2025

Show notes

Welcome back to Seam Split City! Taste is relative, but cold is cold. And nothing is more cold than Stone Cold (right Jim Ross?). Our panel of devoted vinylists will share what they feel are essential characteristics of a "Stone Cold Classic", plus share some examples from their collections. From there we take a cue from the "Wolf of Wall Street Himself", Jordan Belfort, with a segment called "Sell Me This Record". Would you buy these after these impassioned pitches? Maybe not.

All this and MORE on SURFACE NOISE. There's only one.

Surface Noise | Latest Freestyle Aug 11, 2025

Show notes

So much left to talk about, this FREESTYLE from the latest SURFACE NOISE keeps the record spinning! We check in with the returning Arnaldo for his hottest of takes on the latest UHQR announcement before discussing the underwhelming announcement of the latest Mobile Fidelity One Step release (for pre-order) of Stevie Nicks' "Bella Donna". Are certain titles becoming "doorknob" fodder: every reissue label is taking a turn?

Plus, the dais discusses young people fueling the return of cds and how not all cds are created equal. Like vinyl, different country releases often are mastered differently. Special guest Depeche Commode (Chris) fills us in, and talks Depeche Mode's "Violator" - here, only on the latest FREESTYLE courtesy of SURFACE NOISE! Put the needle down and stick around, will ya?

Surface Noise | Vinyl Relics or Archeology? Aug 07, 2025

Show notes

Does anyone use a paper map anymore? Not the kind in your smart phone, but a legit paper map? For the latest and not so greatest episode of SURFACE NOISE, our vinyl paleontologists are here to discuss how collecting records makes one a more informed music fan; rather, how listening to one album, one song, one artist/band can spur us to dig deeper, to learn and expand the knowledge further from the various branches that entails. All in the pursuit of music enjoyment...or trying to.

Plus David Bianco returns to share news from the front lines after visiting a couple emerging pressing plants in North Carolina with new technology as part of their offerings - it's some pretty awesome advancements you don't want to miss!

All this with the help of friend of the show, and owner of the best name in the VC proper, Depeche Commode (Chris) making his debut appearance on the dais, we have a show for the ages on deck.

This, is SURFACE NOISE.

Surface Noise | Latest Freestyle Aug 04, 2025

Show notes

For the latest bonus disc of SURFACE NOISE, this FREESTYLE touches on news of the next two UHQR's from Acoustic Sounds: "Art Pepper Meets the Rhythm Section" and "Way Out West" from the legendary Sonny Rollins. Does our panel feel these are more great choices, or more of the same from this series? ACould there be market fatigue with some of these curation choices being repeated over and over, across reissue campaigns? nd where are the Bob Marley UHQR's? One inquiring mind not in attendance definitely wants to know!

Following that discussion, we bring it home talking about the best names in music - artists or bands with names so good, they might even be better than the actual music they made.

It's the record talk you didn't know you needed, until you didn't have it - it's the latest FREESTYLE courtesy of SURFACE NOISE!

Surface Noise | Rare Records vs. Collectible Records Jul 31, 2025

Show notes

The Vinyl Community livestream that you love to not love, SURFACE NOISE is back hitting all the dinged corners of the record collecting hobby. This latest show touches on the differences (if any) of a "rare" record versus a "collectible" record. When does chasing down something uncommon focus more on the artifact than the article?

We also take a swing at the CRAZY prices of records that not too long ago were affordable with a segment titled "That Record is HOW MUCH now?"

Ample amounts of bad takes and hurt feelings, only on SURFACE NOISE!
