Rubber Soul Special Edition Super Deluxe Side Two (2026) Oct 31, 2026
    Show notes

It’s Rubber Soul! Hey Hey! The first “important” Beatles album…until the “Help” boxed-set next year? Is that how this works, Calderstoners?

Tony and T.J. continue to explore the wonders of the new Rubber Soul deluxe edition, focusing on Side 2 and its corresponding demos and alt takes. As previously mentioned, this very “important” Beatles record - T.J.’s favourite, but only the specific U.S. 8-track running order - deserves the kind of careful analysis that you absolutely won’t get here. Because we’ve taken edibles. Are they legal? Yes. Are we driving? No. So stick it with the judgment and help us answer these queries:

✂️ Is whomever did the online smashup of “Little Girl” and “I’m Only Sleeping” also responsible for “The Beatles Movie Medley” (non-Casey remix)?

😿 (Angry Chicago Barfly Guy, He’s pretty white for a Barfly Guy; and also drunk and sad): “Rubber Soul is OK and all but how come ALF reruns ain’t on Channel 32 no more? And how come I can’t dress as ALF no more for Halloween without being cancelled”?

🎸 Do you think Barack Obama is more angry at Macca for writing the seductive ballad “Michelle”, or at Andru Donalds for writing the even more seductive ballad, and - arguably - the 1990’s most famous song, “Mishale”?

🇺🇸 The Untitled Beatles Podcast encourages all of our American listeners to VOTE this Tuesday, preferably not for jagbags who live their lives antithetical to The Beatles music and message of love; and instead thrive on taking rights from people and causing chaos. Make a voting plan, and as Tone Loc (TM) once said, “Let Do It”? #RuleOfFours #TheMoreYouKnow #Vote!

Rubber Soul Special Edition Super Deluxe Side One (2026) Oct 24, 2026
    Show notes

As Decca Records’ Spanish heartthrobs Los Bravos sang in 1966:

Black is black / I want my track-by-track

And in 2026... T.J. and Tony finally delivered.

Join the Tawdry Two as they giddily go deep on the 2026 mixes (or are they the 2023 mixes?) of Rubber Soul Super Deluxe Side One, along with some of the corresponding bonus tracks. As always, they tackle the hot questions. Hotter than the Norwegian Wood body slaps? YOU DECIDE.

📼 Which is the more iconic Gen X movie soundtrack hit: Don’t You (Forget About Me), Jim Dandy, or No More Lonely Nights (Play Out Version)?

📝 When will Calderstone make good on Andru Donalds’ long overdue Rubber Soul writing credit?

🕚 Which should get more air time — the six included versions of Norwegian Wood, or the zero included versions of 12 Bar Original?

Rubber Soul Special Edition Super Deluxe (2026) Oct 17, 2026
    Show notes

I’m rubber. You’re soul. Whatever you say bounces off me and travels through you in 5.1 Surround Sound, Stereo, Mono and orange vinyl, exclusively at Target.
Reeling and weary after a relevant-to-the-rest-of-the-world Bears loss to the Packers, T.J. and Tony delve into all of the new Rubber Soul 3000 Super Deluxe 61st Anniversary Special Editions and Extracts.
Along the way they’ll ask the questions and A/B the answers.
😎 Which new Discord emoji is the UBP most proud of?
    A) Terri Hemmert
    B) A crust-first slice from Pizza Hit (cue the Monkees)
💪🏿 Mr. T says “take it from me.” What should we take from Mr. T?
    A) His tough advice from the mean streets
    B) The dope
🔊 What’s the best way to enjoy Giles Martin's 2026 Stereo Mixes?
    A) 5.1 Surround Sound on Blu-Ray
    B) Trick question. Mono is the only way to truly the enjoy The Beatles. If you want to listen to stereo Beatles, put on a Perry Como record. It’s the same thing. The Beatles never wanted you to hear those mixes. You shouldn’t even be listening to them. They’ll confuse you. 5 point what?? 1 POINT WHOM??? Many great historians have noted that Van Gogh cut off his ear in order to enjoy Rubber Soul in true mono. A real American Patriot, like his fellow countrymen John, Paul, George and Jimmie Nicol.

Introducing the Beatles* Oct 10, 2026
    Show notes

More Rush? Rush? More! Hurry hurry lover, come to me! That hit was performed by Paula Abdul, and oooooh I’m running for congress... what a spooooooooky last name... lock your doors and BEWARE OF PAULA ABDUL!!!

And this hit episode - now #17 on “Chicago Improv Beatles Podcasts!” - continues the Rushmore journey of some loyal fans of the show. Good news: there’s no more overtures! Better news: the guys take the listener contributions to the next level, as they level up to a level that's a whole new level. Loyal Discordant Steve My Kitten Alone asked how we’d introduce the Beatles to others; who might not share the same passion for or knowledge of the band. In other words, jag bags. But that’s not all! Do we talk about other stuff? Are there other questions? Questions like?

🍆🍔 Who knew Tony was such a big Mac-Head? (That’s a Fleetwood Mac die-hard, someone who’s loved the band both pre-and-post Peter Gabriel. You know, a real fan?) #BigMacHead

📖🐞 Is there enough interest in the topic of Beatles Missionaries to write a highly unauthorized parody of “Book of Mormon”, but with all Beatles songs? #HasaDigaYesterday

💙🧡 (Angry Chicago barfly, he’s wistfully drinking a Malort & Old Style, ruminating on the passing of Mike Ditka) “Me & Coach Ditka didn’t know each other or nothing. But when me & Diane were going through our hardest times, the ’85 Bears is the only real connection we could muster. She got legally cleared to make sweet love to me Sunday mornings at 11, during the Coach Ditka & Johnny Morris show on Channel 2, WBBM. I used to pay her to pretend she was Jeannie Morris, but she looked more like Linda Yu. Well. Now Da Coach is gone, and Diane is, too. She’s in Tampa, but still. #RipCoachDitka

    Our (Non-Beatles) Mount Rushmores Part 2 Oct 03, 2026
    Show notes

Now somewhere in the black mining hills of Dakota
There was a podcast made by a couple of fooooooools

The Gab Two are back at it, rounding out their Rushmores and crowning a couple Crazy Horses. Between blasts of dynamite and pallets of plaster, Tony and T.J. find out:

🎢 On the Mount Rushmore of defunct Chicago amusement parks, is Lincoln Old Chicago? (Answer: Of course not. Kiddieland is Lincoln, Riverview Park is Washington, the Showbiz Pizza Place on Kedzie is Jefferson, and the Sears on Lawrence is Teddy Roosevelt. The Crazy Horse slot is being reserved for Santa’s Village. #HeNotGone?)

🥁 What part of T.J.’s soul is missing that prevents him from appreciating the Glenn Kotche masterclass that is Wilco’s “Shake it Off”…?

⏱ Which will be finished first: this episode, or Crazy Horse?

    Our (Non-Beatles) Mount Rushmores Sep 26, 2026
    Show notes

As the leaves turn “Drive My Car Orange” and “Nowhere Man Taupe” in anticipation of next week’s long-awaited Rubber Soul SDE, we here at UBP HQ are taking some time to honor a few non-fab artists.

With chisels and rasps in hand, T.J. and Tony carve away at the sacred Meigs Field granite peak, each revealing their favorite musical performers that aren’t John, Paul, George, Ringo, Jimmie or Purdie. It’s Mount Rushmore Beyond The Beatles!

Throughout this laborious process they also wonder:

📻🪗 Has radio station WKRP ever played Mike Post’s version of the theme to CSI: Cincinnati (aka “Squeeze Box”)?

🌶️🚽 Speaking of 5-way chili, I’m at a party and I feel a “Jammin on the 2” coming on… Where’s the nearest bathroom???

🎄💣 Did the Untitled Beatles Podcast just declare a War on Billy Joel’s “Christmas in Fallujah”?

Please feel free to share your Mt. Rushmore artists that aren’t The Beatles.

Rubber Soul Super Deluxe Preview! Sep 19, 2026
    Show notes

New Episode Alert! We’re falling for fall at the Untitled Beatles Podcast, especially because Rubber Soul is coming up, like a flower! And now more expansive/expensive than ever! Tony & T.J. share their thoughts on this forthcoming, much anticipated, deluxe version and also ask:

🎤 How many instrumental versions must an album contain before it’s legally filed under “Karaoke”? #FileUnderKaraoke

🎞️ Sure, George Martin wasn’t a huge fan of the U.S. albums; but what are the odds he simply adored “Reel Music”? AND HOW COME HIS NEOPO BABY KID AIN’T GOT THE STONES TO REMIX “MOVIE MEDLEY” LIKE PRODUCER CASEY DID IN HIS SLEEP? AND HOW COME MURAKAMI CAN’T HIT NO MORE?

🕺🏿 Where my community of hefty disco people who wanna see Tom Bosley freak out at?

Beatle Bottoms (Replay!) Sep 12, 2026
    Show notes

Beatle Bottoms. To some, bottoms is a synonym for “tushie”, as they say in the industry. For Tony & T.J., it’s their least favourite Fab 4 songs. And boy do they just disagree. But there ain’t no good guy, there ain’t no bad guy, there’s only this deluxe reissue of one of our favorite early episodes, reproduced for disc by Grandmaster Casey.

    -----

    [Originally released September 5, 2020]

Clickbait: Are T.J. and Tony in a Beatles cult? The answer may dumbfound you!!

In this Labor Day Spectacular (not that spectacular really) T.J. and Tony comb the floor of the Sea of Holes in search of the least fab Beatles songs. Listen for adjectives like "treacly" and "loathsome"(!).

Also included are hot takes on R.E.M. vs Barenaked Ladies, and a very brief tribute to short form improv.

Meanwhile, T.J. discloses one of his "Beatle nightmares" while Tony wears out his “Beatle bag.”

Fact cheque: "It’s All Too Much" was recorded at De Lane Lea Studios and "Baby, You’re A Rich Man" at Olympic Sound Studios.

Neither T.J. nor Tony can remember what a clavioline is.

    U.S. Rubber Soul Part 2 (Replay from 2021!) Sep 05, 2026
    Show notes

    Originally aired May 22, 2021

    -----

The British Rubber Soul is for the birds! OK, that might be a little aggressive. The album's a masterpiece, but T.J. and Tony make a pretty compelling argument that nobody really misses "What Goes On," and that Dave Dexter's U.S. version for Capitol Records is just a superior collection.

    It's so fine.

    It's sunshine.

It's PART TWO of our U.S. Rubber Soul deep dish. And along the way, we ponder:

    • Where does journalist Maureen Cleave fit into the lineup: Is she the fifth Beatle... or THE THIRD?

    • And where does Ed McMahon land? (Spoiler: the ninth Beatle.)

    • Which iconic songs would the guys etch into their solo Eagles Mt. Rushmores?

"Run For Your Life" may not age well, but we like to think our dumb Peter Cetera jokes will. YOU BE THE JUDGE.

    U.S. Rubber Soul Part 1 (Replay from 2021!) Aug 29, 2026
    Show notes

    Originally aired May 15, 2021

    -----

Hey hey! It's our birthday, and we're gonna have a good time. And amazingly, T.J. managed to do an entire year's worth of podcasts before finally cutting loose on his all-time favorite version of his all-time favorite album: the Capitol Records U.S. edition of Rubber Soul. Dave Dexter helps the Fab Four find their inner folksters, and, not to spoil the podcast or anything: TONY AND T.J. ENTHUSIASTICALLY APPROVE.

In Part 1 of their deep dish, the guys remember how they first discovered Rubber Soul, compare and contrast the U.S. and British releases, and dig into the first few tracks. But there's so much good stuff to talk about, we'll have to finish out the album in Part 2 next week. As always, we got a little distracted along the way, making sure to cover crucial tangents like:

What are our least favorite words for "excrement"?

Which Buffalo reigns supreme: Buffalo Springfield, Buffalo Stance, or Dabney Coleman's early 80s sitcom Buffalo Bill?

Where does Norwegian Wood sit among the all-time great pyromaniac songs?

Really, we can't believe we've been at this for a whole year (or that we still haven't come up with a title for the podcast). We couldn't do it without this wonderful community of Fab Four fanatics. Thanks for coming along on this long and meandering road, and here's to another trip around the sun!
