Penny is born prematurely but survives only to suffer double pneumonia at six. The family suffers through the Depression, but Penny goes to Bible college where she meets George. They marry, graduate and go into ministry. Four children are born, but the youngest is murdered at 19. After George dies in 1989, Penny serves with missionaries in Mexico. James Wilkins is a guest speaker at a meeting, and she prays that he would desire marriage to her one day. She nearly dies in a car accident with her sister but survives and continues to pray for James. They marry in 1996, and now they serve the Lord together.

Drinking is prevalent in Mark’s family of nine children; talking isn’t. When Mark uses his dad’s van without permission, his older brother beat him up. Mark drinks too much and drives his snowmobile into a semi-truck, nearly dying; speech impaired. After recovering he goes back to drinking, his mother uses tough love and he goes to rehab in Chicago. There he prays and Christians mentor him until he is saved. He agonizes about turning in his brother to police for car theft, but his mom insisted, so he does. He becomes an aggressive soul winner, goes to Bible college and marries Julie. Now in ministry.

Hears street preacher in Canada, convicted by Bible verses, goes to gospel meetings. Struggles but prays for salvation. Now an evangelist in Canada.

Arthur’s family is impoverished by his dad’s drinking. He wastes his time in school but graduates. Joins the Navy but is so immature he’s released in two weeks. Marries his sweetheart but drinks like his father. Daughter is born with cleft in face, nearly dies in later surgery. Arthur promises God he’ll go to church if God saves her. God does and Arthur keeps his promise. His wife is saved and the pastor visits and leads Arthur to Christ. Both he and Dad quit drinking, and Arthur leads his father to Christ.

Grandmother’s godly influence ends with her death. Tommy quits school, drifts for ten years, in and out of jail for minor offenses. Then he deals crack and gets hooked. Family intervenes, take him to Pacific Garden Mission where he receives Christ. He finishes Bible college, then gets Doctorate in Theology. Now a chaplain in the U.S. Army.

As a teenager, Brad searches for his dad and finds him. Brad and his brother go to live with him, but Brad still feels empty inside. He goes to revival and is saved. Learns to submit to his dad’s authority and ultimately leads his father to Christ. Then his father is reconciled to Brad’s grandfather and leads him to the Lord.
