"In my 10 years in law enforcement, never have I see a slaying of this type nor has anyone on my staff... This was a brutal slaying done by a very sick individual."
On 12 October 1978, 12-year-old Linda Pikuritz rode her bike from her family's home in Port Charlotte, FL to a convenience store about one mile away. This was a trip that Linda had been making regularly for months. But on this night in particular - right before Friday the 13th - Linda never returned home.
Firefighters battling a brush fire in an uninhabited region of nearby Murdock made a horrifying discovery a few hours later, which sent shockwaves through this quiet community. Years later, an arrest was made, but justice was never served...

    "Mary Anderson" May 16, 2021
    Show notes

"The ritual of her death is probably not too different from how she lived her life. She is very careful, methodical. She goes to great lengths to hide how she dies, but none of us, no matter what we do, can disappear without a trace."
On 9 October 1996, a woman checked into Seattle's Hotel Vintage Park, a boutique hotel located a stones throw away from the city's many tourist attractions. Under the name "Mary A. Anderson," she paid for a single room for two nights using cash.
Two days later, staff members would find the woman's body inside of room 214, peacefully lying on the bed. However, as authorities began looking into the woman's bizarre death, they discovered a baffling mystery...

Attacking late at night - armed with a hammer - Jason told one of his victims that he was "an avenging angel" that was there to "mete out justice for the people" he had hurt.

    Rachanda Pickle Mar 28, 2021
    Show notes

"At this point, we're hoping that she did run away and that she's safe and sound somewhere. What we're afraid of is that someone came up to the house, found her alone here and took her."
On 10 July 1990, 13-year-old Rachanda Pickle was last seen inside her mother and stepfather's home in Santiam Junction, Oregon. This was an incredibly small community located roughly halfway between Sweet Home and Sisters, at the junction of Highways 20 & 22.
While tipsters would claim to see the missing teen all along the west coast, investigators have been unable to locate Rachanda after more than three decades. However, the case has been linked to a handful of other disappearances and murders in the area, and guilt has been laid at the feet of her stepfather, John Arthur Ackroyd...

The South County Bomber Mar 21, 2021
    Show notes

"I would not consider him a sociopath because the thing he is doing is almost bizarre, and on a psychotic level..."
Between October and November of 1977, a series of car bombs would kill and injure multiple people in eastern Missouri. The victims were middle-class individuals living in apartment buildings in southern St. Louis County, who appeared to have no connection to one another.
As federal investigators began to look into these separate-yet-similar explosions, they began to question whether someone close to the victims was attempted to disguise their true motivations. However, as they'd find, the truth would remain shielded by this culprit's chaotic nature...
