It's been a while since I've recorded! Since our last episode a lot has occurred--specifically a major win in Virginia concerning two schools in Shenandoah County. I talk about this and a few other things, plus tell you about the new books that have been flying on the shelf.
It's never a dull moment at Crossroads Country Store. I am continually encouraged by the sheer number of people from around the country that encourage our work here, but this past week someone didn't like what we had to say.
Herein is a more in-depth history on the iconic Robert E. Lee Monument that was removed from Richmon's Monument Avenue. Since then, there's been an effort to erect a brand new monument--a replica--of this Lee statue. Listen in to find out more!

Forrest has got to be one of my personal favorites! After the war, General Lee was asked who he thought his greatest general was, Lee replied, "Sir, a gentleman I have never had the pleasure to meet, General Nathan Bedford Forrest." There's been a recent threat to the UDC (United Daughters of the Confederacy) here in Virginia--they could lose their tax exempt status. Matt gives an update on the situation and what you can do about it.

The majority of people today are led to believe that the Confederate battle flag embodies nothing but a host of negative connotations. Nothing could be further from the truth. In this episode Matt explains the rich history of the "Southern Cross," and what it means to Southerners today.
It was Jefferson Davis who said “The principle for which we contend is bound to reassert it’s self, though it may be at another time and in another form.” Is this what we're seeing with the Texas Vs. the Federal government right now concerning the border crisis? I think so.
Modern historians do their best to disparage heroes like Stonewall Jackson--as they do with all Confederate History. This should not be the case. Jackson may have had his quirks but according to Robert E. Lee he was a valuable and successful piece of the Army of Northern Virginia. We honor his legacy. Also included in this episode is a brief historical story you may have never heard.

The book A South-Side View of Slavery was published in 1854 by a prominent anti-slavery Massachusetts pastor Nehemiah Adams. His recorded observations were both accurate and contentious--refuting the radical abolitionist narrative of the day. Episode 4 gives a brief overview of this work, along with a talk on some of South Carolina's secession documents.
