In today’s episode, we talk about the pain of commitment and how we need to stop trying to numb it. We also break down how to do this with your strengths. We begin by sharing an example from Eddie’s life -- how in his current effort to grow he had to confront the urge to numb the pain of his new commitment and refuse to follow it. We then explain that we must not give in to the belief that who we are is not going to work, because that always leads to us dipping into our bottom strengths and doing things that aren’t authentic to who we really are. We talk about how motivating and energizing it is to apply our top ten strengths one by one to any new task we undertake. We also give an important challenge to not wait to be happy, but remember how our strengths have helped us succeed in the past and choose to be that person every day.

“Even if you made a whole bunch of money but then you lost it, at least say, ‘I was able to make that much money.’ Even if you were to build relationships and you screwed up those relationships, at least you could say, ‘I built up the relationship!’ Even if at one point in time you did believe in yourself but you stopped, you can still say, at one point in time, ‘I’ve done this.’ What I want you to do is look at your strengths and say, ‘Oh my gosh, you can do that again!’ And as of today, right here, right now, while listening to this podcast, you can say to yourself, ‘Damn, I’m good!
