Classic Replay: Can we trust the Trinity? – James White and Sir Anthony Buzzard May 05, 2021

Show notes

Is the doctrine of the Trinity to be found in the Bible? Was Jesus really "of one substance" with God the Father?

US Christian apologist James White of Alpha and Omega Ministries returns to defend the doctrine of the Trinity as he discusses key Old and New Testament texts with Sir Anthony Buzzard of the Restoration Fellowship.

James believes the doctrine of the Trinity is implicit and explicit at various points throughout scripture. Anthony disagrees and claims the Doctrine of the Trinity is one of the most costly mistakes the Christian church ever made.

This show was originally broadcast on 13th March 2010.

Classic Replay: The Unification Church of Sun Myung Moon & Easter – Christian Nseka and Doug Harris Apr 27, 2021

Show notes

The Unification church of Revd Sun Myung Moon (aka The Moonies) is often regarded as a cult. But what do they actually believe about Jesus and his death and resurrection?

Christian Nseka is a member of the religion and believes we need to see Jesus' death and resurrection in a new way. He believes that Christ did not fulfil his mission and that Revd Moon is the new Messiah.

Doug Harris runs the Reachout Trust, a Christian organisation seeking to engage with Cults and the New Age. He believes that Nseka's understanding of the Bible is skewed and he has missed the point of Jesus death and resurrection at Easter.

This show was originally broadcast on 3rd April 2010. Doug sadly passed away in 2013.

Show notes

An Inter-Christian discussion on the beliefs and doctrines that are distinctive of Seventh Day Adventists. Why do they hold to Saturday as the ‘true’ day for worship and rest? Are they too legalistic? What about the failed prophecy of Christ's return that they grew out of? What should we make of founder Ellen White's teaching on ‘Investigative Judgement’?

David Burnett and Victor Hulbert of the SDA church in the UK respond to these questions raised by Doug Harris of the Reachout Trust in a friendly encounter seeking to understand more about the denomination.

Do Muslims & Christians worship the same God? Andy Bannister & Archbishop Josiah Idowu-Fearon Apr 16, 2021

Show notes

It's often claimed that, despite their religious differences, Muslims and Christians still believe in and worship the same creator God.

In his new book Andy Bannister explains why he believes the God of Islam and Christianity cannot be the same. In contrast, Archbishop Josiah Idowu-Fearon, who heads up Christian-Muslim interfaith work in Nigeria, believes that the two religions are working with different concepts of the same God.

Plus, apologist Clare Williams, who is one of the speakers at our upcoming conference, speaks to Ruth Jackson about some of the big questions young black people face.

Classic Replay: Are we alone in the universe? – Paul Davies & John Lennox Apr 13, 2021

Show notes

What does it take for life to get going in our universe? Is there intelligence in the stars or right under our nose? Renowned astrophysicist Paul Davies chats to Oxford Professor of Mathematics John Lennox.

A popular science author, Davies’ book ‘The Eerie Silence’ examines the likelihood of the universe producing life elsewhere.

John Lennox is a Christian Mathematician and philosopher. He is the author of numerous books including ‘God's Undertaker: has science buried God?’ and has debated Richard Dawkins on several occasions.

Davies' work on the fine tuning of the universe for life has been sympathetic to theism. In this programme, Lennox challenges Davies to look to design not just in cosmology but in the cell. They also chat about what the discovery of extra-terrestrial life would mean for Christian theology.

Originally broadcast on 17th April 2010.
