Space-Time, Quantum Mechanics and The Large Hadron Collider Feb 02, 2011

Show notes

Nima Arkani-Hamed discusses how fundamental physics started the 20th century with the twin revolutions of relativity and quantum mechanics, and much of the second half of the century was devoted to the construction of a theoretical structure unifying these radical ideas, which has been confirmed to exquisite precision by experiments over the past three decades.

Low-Scale SUSY Breaking: Collider Physics and Cosmology Jan 31, 2011

Show notes

Matt Reece discusses some distinctive phenomenology associated with low-scale breaking of supersymmetry (as in models of gauge mediation).

Dark Matter Eschewing Astrophysics Jan 25, 2011

Show notes

Graham Kribs talks about what can be extracted from (a single observation of) nuclear recoil events at a direct detection experiment completely independent of astrophysics.

Imperfect Dark Energy of Kinetic Gravity Braiding Jan 18, 2011

Show notes

Alexander Vikman discusses a new class of cosmological scalar fields.

Electroweak Symmetry Breaking from Monopoles Jan 10, 2011

Show notes

Csaba Csaki reviews magnetic monopoles and describes a model where monopole bilinears condense and break electroweak symmetry.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly ... of Horava Gravity Dec 01, 2010

Show notes

Tony Padilla talks about problems with Lorentz Invariance violating theories of gravity.

Dynamical Supersymmetry Breaking and the Origins of Flavor Nov 30, 2010

Show notes

Nathaniel Craig explores calculable models with low-energy supersymmetry where the flavor hierarchy is generated by quark and lepton compositeness, and where the composites emerge from the same sector that dynamically breaks supersymmetry.

Detecting and Discriminating WIMP Dark Matter Nov 29, 2010

Show notes

Prateek Agrawal presents renormalizable theories where the scattering of dark matter is elastic and arises at tree-level.

Higgs Decaying to Lepton Jets Nov 23, 2010

Show notes

Tomer Volansky presents a novel scenario in which the Higgs decays predominantly into a light hidden sector either directly or through light SUSY states.

Axial Anomalies in Hydrodynamics Nov 22, 2010

Show notes

Dam Son shows that a hitherto discarded term in the conserve current is not only allowed by symmetries, but is in fact required by triangle anomalies and the second law of thermodynamics.
