    Turning This Car Around

America’s number one best and favorite podcast about fatherhood hosted by Lex Friedman, John Moltz and Jon Armstrong.

Turning This Car Around is a podcast about parenthood from three dads, Lex Friedman, John Moltz and Jon Armstrong. You can follow us collectively on Twitter as @ttcashow

Lex Friedman is the Chief Revenue Officer at ART19. He is a pretty important guy in the world of podcasting. He’s also a writer; he authored humor books like The Snuggie Sutra and The Kid in the Crib.

He was also a senior contributor to Macworld, an author of technology books, and the co-host of Not Playing, a podcast where Dan Moren and Lex watch movies that everyone else has already seen. Mr. Friedman was formerly the cohost of Unprofessional.

Lex’s blog is called Lex, Briefly.

Lex lives with his wife and three kids in New Jersey.

You might know John Moltz as a person on the Internet. Many people do! However, he also appears in other guises, sometimes as a large, golden bull and others as a phalanx of beautiful swans! Usually, however, he appears as a guy working at a desk. Other important points that John Moltz would like to share:

    • John Moltz is fluent in English and conversational in two other languages.
    • John Moltz is the ship that made the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs. He’s fast enough for you, old man.
    • John Moltz is actually made up of thousands of smaller John Moltzes, all furiously working tiny little gears to keep the larger construct you know as “John Moltz” functioning.
    • John Moltz is a little too comfortable talking about himself in the third person.

Jon Armstrong is a long time blogger at the barely alive Blurbomat, a UX/UI consultant, a web/business developer, a photographer and the impetus for this show. In a past life he executive produced a popular blog and ran the business. Yes, business. Turning This Car Around marks Armstrong’s first foray into podcasting.

You can see his photos on Flickr and Instagram.

Jon splits time between Brooklyn, New York and Salt Lake City, Utah. Armstrong has two wonderful and amazing biological children and two also wonderful almost-stepchildren.

Lex is away this week so Jon and Moltz start by talking about movie trailers. Surprise. The trailer for the new Ghostbusters looks pretty good but has one problem that bugs us. Jon is looking forward to Batman vs. Superman, Moltz is skeptical. Jon has seen and recommends Deadpool, but it's clearly not for kids. That taken care of, we move on to civics, like how to talk to your kids about Donald Trump. Maybe someone should have had that conversation with Chris Christie. Jon recommends The Whistlestop, a podcast on politics by John Dickerson. Our thanks to Audible for sponsoring this episode. Go to Audible.com/ttca to get a 30-day trail absolutely free. It's the 100th episode and we have a cast of 1,000s lined up for, nah, it's just us. Always remember to get off in Crackton. What else would we talk about on our 100th episode than Anita Hill. That Liam sure likes Uptown Funk. Mouth.com may sound like a porn site but it's not. Well, liquor and bacon porn, maybe. And now, some jazz. Our thanks to Sleep Number, the best sleep of your life. Please enjoy the Jurassic Park theme song done on the melodica. Lex's son is getting a karaoke machine for his birthday, perhaps one like this. We talk about school lunches and food allergy rules (links are not necessarily endorsements, we support keeping kids with allergies safe unlike those OTHER dadcasts). Here's your overblown parenting article of the week, this one about child prodigies. Here's a funny video that involves quantum mechanics, chess, Ant-Man, Stephen Hawking and Bill and Ted. Seriously. Little Bits looks pretty cool. Snap Circuits are also cool. When we were coming up, though, it was all Elencos. When we weren't huffing fumes from our Creepy Crawler Thing Maker, that is. Behold! The dark secret of Brian REVEALED! Not creepy at all. Follow us: @ttcashow. Lex Friedman can be found @lexfri, John Moltz can be found @Moltz and Jon Armstrong is @blurb.

Here's a story sort of about a dad getting arrested for taking away his daughter's iPhone but there's more going on. Some smart kids have a plan on how the oceans can clean themselves. Finally, Brian, beloved by all some, returns to the show in a surprise turn of events that terrifies Moltz and Armstrong. Our thanks this week to Mack Weldon. Mack Weldon makes fucking glorious underwear to hold your bits in the way they deserve and we know this because we're wearing it right fucking now. It is awesome stuff. Here's an article on parenting. We don't really talk about it very much in this episode. Here's how to build an upside down fire. The Chimney Safety Institute of America says Duraflame logs are safe but Moltz doesn't buy it. Make sure your chimney doesn't get critters like raccoons. Our thanks this week to Mack Weldon. Lex is enjoying him some Slimfast and they're not even a sponsor. Jon and Moltz are more into Bulleit. We wonder about the safety of kids drinking caffeine but the big problems seem to be soda and energy drinks, not necessarily coffee or tea. Adele's carpool karaoke is pretty good. Ladies and gentlemen, the poop stuck in my butt song. And, to follow that up, here's Emily Mandelbaum singing Let Me Poop to the tune of Let It Go. Camelback Resort has some serious water slides. The Moltzes, however, are going to Great Wolf Lodge. And our thanks to Sleep Number, the best sleep of your life. Moltz quotes the movie Top Secret. Some of our kids are going through changes. Jon's daughters plays Tapple and Telestrations. Moltz's family is currently playing Ticket To Ride. Second Step is a bullying prevention program which is probably better than giving your kid a flame thrower. Moltz's family enjoys their Shakespearean insult bandages.
