Cadhay Manor: Tudor History and the Echoes of Conspiracy Sep 19, 2024

Show notes

One of my favorite places in the whole world is the medieval ponds at Cadhay House in Devon. The owner, Rupert Thistlethwayte sat down with me for a chat about the history of this picturesque Tudor estate, and give some hints at conspiracy in Devon. Rupert even dubbed me his US Ambassador to Cadhay!

Devon held many notable families of the time like the Courtenays, Somersets, Raleigh, Drake and so many more! Margaret Beaufort even had a place in Devon!

Visit Cadhay House for yourself, or plan an event there - either way, get to Cadhay because you won't regret it.

Discovering Kateryn Parr at Sudeley Castle Sep 05, 2024

Show notes

Sudeley Castle, the final home of Kateryn Parr and Thomas Seymour, carries a deep connection to their story. Granted to Thomas when he was created Baron Seymour of Sudeley by his nephew, Edward VI, in 1547, the castle became a place of both joy and sorrow. It was here that Parr passed away on September 5, 1548, shortly after giving birth to their daughter. Kateryn Parr is unique among Henry VIII's wives, as she is the only one to be honored with a magnificent tomb, complete with a stunning effigy. Discover more about the last place she called home and the events that unfolded after her passing.

Footsteps of Cromwell: The Miles Brothers' Illustrated Exploration Sep 03, 2024

Show notes

One of the absolute highlights of my trip to England was spending time with Ben and George Miles. They were such a blast that I just had to sit down with them for a chat.

You might know Ben Miles from The Crown or Napoleon, but he’s also renowned for his portrayal of Thomas Cromwell in Hilary Mantel's stage adaptation of her trilogy.

George, an incredibly talented photographer, is someone I wish more people knew about.

In this episode, we dive into their journey of creating the book, exploring the very places where Cromwell once walked, and discussing both Tudor history and the broader history of England.
