We break down how creators actually make a living on YouTube when AdSense is unreliable, and why trust with the right viewers beats chasing the biggest possible audience. We also get practical about choosing a niche, handling copyright threats, and making sense of the new views vs engaged views reality.
    • Tyler’s path from hobby creator to paid YouTube work
    • creator skills that are valuable to companies beyond posting videos
    • sponsorships and brand work as realistic income for smaller channels
    • why brands fail on YouTube when they only post ads

YouTube just dropped a stack of creator updates, and a few of them could seriously change how we plan videos, edit faster, and test ideas without guessing. We go live to unpack the biggest announcements and pressure-test what they actually mean for real creators, not just the product demo version.
First up: video A B testing. Not thumbnails, the actual edit. We talk through how creators will be able to upload two or three cuts of the same video into one slot, compare retention graphs side by side, and let YouTube pick a winner. Then we get into the messy part: is “watch time share” really the right deciding metric when recommendations also depend on viewer satisfaction, returning viewers, and other signals we never fully see? We also explore the loopholes and limitations creators are already thinking about, including whether this could lead to a practical way to replace a video after upload.
Then we shift to dynamic thumbnails, a new concept where YouTube can recommend different thumbnails to different audience segments. We debate what segmentation could mean in practice: age, device, traffic source, warm audience versus new viewers, and whether this is genius personalization or one more layer of thumbnail theory that overwhelms creators.
We also cover Shorts series with a Watch Series button for bingeable vertical content, plus new live streaming features like battles, built-in reactions with attribution, and creator matchmaking that can pair you with other streamers. If you care about YouTube growth, monetization, retention, and the future of creator tools, this one is packed. Subscribe for more, share this with a creator friend, and leave a review with the one update you think will matter most.

YouTube is changing the scoreboard again, and creators are stuck asking a brutal question: if a “view” can be counted after one frame, what does success really mean now? I sit down with Nolan and Max from Donut Media to talk about the metrics that still matter, the behind-the-scenes decisions that shape great videos, and the personal cost of tying your identity to analytics.
We get into how a highly produced automotive YouTube channel plans months ahead, why that production backbone is both a superpower and a constraint, and what it takes to leave room for rare opportunities. Nolan opens up about the emotional weight of losing key creative partners, how reading comments can distort your self-image, and why separating personal worth from performance is a survival skill for anyone building a creator career.
Max breaks down Donut’s shift to quality over quantity, moving from multiple uploads a week to one “event” video that can be genuinely bulletproof. Then we tackle the business side: advertisers, sponsorships, engaged views, audience retention, average view duration, and why retention graphs may become the clearest signal of real attention in a world of inflated view counts. We also share the channels that inspire us and what “authentic” actually looks like when you are running a big brand.
If you care about YouTube growth, sustainable content strategy, creator mental health, and making videos people finish, this conversation is for you. Subscribe for more creator deep-dives, share this with a friend building on YouTube, and leave a review with the metric you trust most right now.

We break down audience-first packaging, device-based viewing behavior, and how community building scales from a single channel to global projects like VidSummit and The Chosen.
    • YouTube monetisation changes and why watch time still wins
    • why creators stall by delaying value and misunderstanding format
    • watching YouTube like a student rather than only consuming tutorials
    • engaged views on long form and how to read analytics without spiraling

Shorts can explode your reach overnight, but what happens when that growth starts working against you? We sit down with Justin from Just Notified, a creator who has pivoted across multiple niches and landed on a compelling format: reacting to creator stories with tight edits, strong hooks, and narrative-driven “native intros.” He breaks down how he turns live streams into polished long form videos, why he studies viewer psychology, and how simple storytelling structure can lift retention without making your content feel scripted.
We also get real about the Shorts dilemma creators are facing right now. Shorts can bring in huge views and fast subscribers, yet Justin notices a frustrating pattern: after Shorts take off, long form click-through rate and watch time can drop because those new subscribers may not actually want the deeper videos. We talk through the looming Shorts monetization changes, the pressure of hitting 10 million views in 90 days, and the tradeoff of spending four to five hours on a single Short when that same time could build a stronger long form library. Justin shares a smarter workflow: clip high-volume short form moments directly from live streams so Shorts support, rather than steal from, your main content strategy.
Then we zoom out to the platform layer. We grade YouTube Hype after a year in the wild, question whether live practice mode solves the problems streamers actually have, and unpack Patreon’s attempt to become more than a membership add-on by rolling out new discovery and promotional tools. If you care about sustainable YouTube growth, creator monetization, and building a channel with a clear promise, this one will give you plenty to think about. A channel that cleans extreme hoarder homes for free should not be a six-figure media business, yet Midwest Magic Cleaning is exactly that. We sit down with Mac to unpack how a simple, honest format, walking into real chaos and turning it into order, becomes one of the most addictive kinds of YouTube content. Along the way, we talk about the part people miss: these homes are often tied to ADHD, autism, PTSD, and hoarding disorder, and the cleanup only works long-term when you treat it as a mental health issue instead of a moral failing.
We also get unusually specific about YouTube monetization. Mac explains why his AdSense revenue is so strong, how a rare audience profile can drive CPM, and why the “big month” numbers still come with big costs like taxes, employees, dumpsters, and even catching people up on utilities so basic services can be turned back on. If you care about sustainable creator income, this is a real-world breakdown of what reinvesting into a mission-driven channel actually looks like.
Then we move into creator strategy you can steal today: tight intros, narration over action, and the rule that “doing” channels should always keep the background moving to protect audience retention. Mac shares why he refuses sponsorships, how he integrates plugs without breaking flow, and how simple thumbnails can outperform over-designed “guru” templates. We also talk privacy, travel limits, and why comment moderation is not censorship, it’s community design.

Copyright Strikes As A Weapon Sep 14, 2026

Three copyright strikes can end a YouTube career, and the scariest part is how easy it can be for the wrong person to pull that trigger. We start with a story that feels unbelievable until you remember how fast the system moves: older videos get hit all at once, a major business moment is days away, and the creator ends up paying $7,500 just to get the strikes released. Whether you call it licensing or leverage, the outcome is the same: the copyright process becomes a tool for pressure.
From there we unpack the wider wave of mass copyright strikes hitting anime commentary and reaction channels, including claims that appear to target video titles, hashtags, screenshots, and even community posts. We talk about why “fair use” is so hard to rely on in real life, how counter-notifications work, and why the cost and timeline of court (think years and six figures) makes the playing field uneven for most creators. We also dig into the DMCA safe harbor reality: platforms protect themselves first, which explains the speed of takedowns, but doesn’t excuse policies that can amplify harm.
We end with solutions and creator survival tactics: human review when a channel gets slammed with mass strikes, better verification for claimants, rate limits on bulk takedowns, and a trust-based approach that protects established channels from instant deletion. Then we pivot to YouTube analytics and the new view count that can include hover behaviour, plus what “engaged views” mean for click-through rate, intros, watch hours, and thumbnail testing.
If you care about creator rights, YouTube copyright policy, and making sense of YouTube metrics, subscribe, share this with a creator friend, and leave a review. What change would make the copyright strike system harder to abuse?

We sit down with Grant Rudow to unpack how he went from a small start to 141,000 subscribers and 20 million views by treating YouTube like an ideation and packaging game, not an editing contest. We dig into what actually makes people click, what makes them stay, and why a “good video” can still fail if the topic is wrong.
    • his leap from accounting and consulting into YouTube
    • early upload reality from 50 views to a breakout hit
    • why the idea is the foundation and packaging cannot save a bad concept
    • the Buy Now Pay Later burrito thumbnail and how it creates curiosity
    • diagnosing underperformers by separating topic, concept, and packaging
    • the data centers video as a hard lesson on audience interest
    • building a broad channel around a clear promise and a huge TAM
    • the 10 ideas a day habit and using prompts to generate concepts
    • weekly versus every other week uploads and how pace changes quality
    • RPM versus CPM, seasonality, and why chasing RPM can distract you
    • spending most of the work on the first minutes for retention
    • storytelling tools like the rug pull and constant question opening
    • the trap Grant personally fell for with credit card points

A six-figure sponsorship can happen long before you have a massive subscriber count, but only if you treat your channel like a business and your audience like a real community. Travis sits down with YouTube educator Daniel Batal to break down the exact mindset that turns “nice channel” into “we need to work with you,” including how Daniel approached DaVinci Resolve, why he is comfortable saying AdSense is only one revenue stream, and what it means to build income you can actually rely on.
We get tactical about YouTube sponsorships and brand deals: why a multi-page proposal beats a casual email, what data sponsors care about, and how to make it easy for a marketing team to say yes. Daniel shares how audience connection creates leverage, even at small sizes, and why creators who chase quick wins often sabotage long-term growth. If you’ve been searching for creator monetization advice, sponsor outreach tips, or how to price partnerships, this conversation is built to give you a clearer playbook.
We also talk YouTube growth strategy in 2026, including AI as a practical tool for ideation and proposal writing, the risks of repetitive farmed content, and why viewer behavior still rules everything. Daniel explains how shorts can function as real educational content, not just a funnel, and why metrics like CTR and retention shift when you hit scale. You can spend years trying to “figure out the YouTube algorithm” and still miss the simplest truth: YouTube isn’t trying to make creators feel good, it’s trying to satisfy viewers. We react to a rare, useful conversation from YouTube where Renee Ritchie talks with Todd Beaupré, one of the people working on recommendations, and we translate the big takeaways into creator language you can actually use.
We talk through the shift from thinking the algorithm “pushes” your videos to understanding how recommendations are “pulled” for each individual viewer the moment they open YouTube. That includes context you can’t see in Analytics, like what device someone is on and what time of day they’re watching. If you’ve ever wondered why your viewing habits change on TV versus desktop, or why a completely unrelated video shows up next to what you’re watching, the answer is personalisation and it matters for how you plan content.
Then we tackle the myths that drive creator panic: the so-called subscriber test, the obsession with the first 24 to 48 hours, and the emotional damage of seeing “10 of 10” inside YouTube Studio. We get specific about when early performance truly matters (timely videos) versus when evergreen content can quietly find its audience weeks or months later. We also break down what YouTube optimises for long-term user value, why no single metric like CTR or watch time can tell the full story, and how suggested videos often function as the real subscription feed.
If you’re pivoting topics, debating a new channel, or trying to make sense of “random” suggested placements, this conversation will help you think like a viewer again and make better decisions as a creator. Subscribe, share this with a creator friend who’s doom-refreshing Studio, and leave a review with the one YouTube myth you want debunked next.
