In the spring of 2011, the community of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, was shaken by the suspicious death of 16-year-old Cody Dempster. He was found unresponsive in a downtown alley and later pronounced dead—his passing eventually ruled a homicide. The RCMP initially had suspects, but despite early leads, the case went cold. For over a decade, Cody’s family and friends remained silent. Now, for the first time, they’re speaking out. In this episode, we revisit Cody’s final moments, the early investigation, and the long fight for justice.

For years, Cody Dempster’s case remained unresolved. Then, in 2018, the file was taken over by a cold case unit, and investigators narrowed in on a suspect. But despite significant developments, no arrest was ever made. In this episode, we uncover who police believe is responsible for Cody’s death—and why they were never brought to trial. With insight from Cody’s best friend Alex, his older brother Ryan, and the officers who worked the case, we piece together the story of a boy who never got justice—and a family who is speaking out.

Amber Manthorne was last seen in her Vancouver Island community of Port Alberni on July 7, 2022, leaving her loved ones and the community searching for answers. Her white 2021 Jeep Compass was found abandoned two days later, near a logging road outside Nanaimo. In a chilling twist, security footage shows her ex-boyfriend, Justin Hall, driving her vehicle and struggling with a suitcase and a large plastic tote in the early hours of July 8. The large black plastic tote seen in the footage has never been recovered.
The RCMP now believe that Amber was likely the victim of foul play, with Hall as a key person of interest. Yet Hall's own death in Merritt last year has left police with more questions than answers, and Amber’s family still waits for closure. In this episode, we speak with Laura Palmer, host of the podcast Island Crime, who covered Amber’s case in-depth. Together, we examine the events surrounding Amber’s disappearance, the disturbing details caught on camera, and the lingering questions that haunt those still hoping for answers.

Tyson Richard Clark and Jean Leon Musoni later faced similar charges. In this episode, we explore the devastating case of Tori Dunn, a 30-year-old woman from Surrey, BC, who was tragically killed in her home in June 2024. The circumstances surrounding her death have sparked outrage, as the man accused, Adam Troy Mann, was released on bail despite a history of violent crimes.
We’ll take a closer look at the controversial "catch and release" bail system in Canada, questioning how someone with such a dangerous background could be free to commit another violent act. Through this episode, we aim to raise awareness of Tori Dunn’s story and advocate for meaningful changes in the Canadian justice system to better protect victims of crime and their families.
In an exclusive conversation, we speak with Tori’s father, Aron Dunn, who shares his pain and frustration, as well as his hopes for reform in the wake of his daughter’s tragic death. Join us as we shed light on a system that many believe is failing to keep Canadians safe and discuss the urgent need for change.

Sherry Corrigal, a 22-year-old woman from Nanaimo, has been missing since September 2023. Her disappearance is considered suspicious and deeply troubling by the Nanaimo RCMP, who have been actively investigating her case. Sherry was last seen in the downtown area of Nanaimo, and her lack of contact with family and friends is highly unusual.
Sherry is described as being 5 feet tall, weighing around 90 pounds, with long dark hair, and distinctive tattoos on her arms, hands, and back. Despite numerous searches, interviews, and the review of CCTV footage, there have been no significant leads. Her case remains a high priority for the investigators, who are urging anyone with information to come forward directly to the police, rather than sharing unverified details on social media.
Join us as we sit down with Jami, one of Sherry's foster mothers, who shares insights into Sherry's life and the emotional journey her loved ones have endured since her disappearance.

In this episode we dive into the murder of 20-year-old Laura Lopera. Colombian authorities have named Canadian Jesse Gilbert Wiseman as the prime suspect in the murder. Laura's body was found in a suitcase in Jesse Wiseman's Medellín apartment. The pair met on a dating app, and Wiseman left Colombia for Guatemala shortly before the body was discovered. The crime has sparked outrage, with preliminary investigations suggesting Lopera died on February 4, 2024. Wiseman's behaviour and verbal threats have raised concerns about potential abuse. Medellín's mayor has confirmed Wiseman’s identification and is seeking justice through Interpol.
We speak to Richard Emblin from The City Paper Bogota as well as a first-hand witness, Travis Ridgen, who believes he had a very strange run in with Jesse Wiseman on a VIA Rail train that was travelling from Vancouver to Winnipeg mid February 2024.

In Sparwood, B.C., tragedy struck when Joel Zimbalatti was found dead in his mobile home. Despite months passing since the incident, the details surrounding his death remain veiled in mystery. While one individual fled the scene before authorities arrived on Oct. 11, another, identified as "Slim" (real name Joshua Freeman), has emerged as a crucial person of interest. Joshua isn't the only person of interest though, a second man was taken into custody and released, and has since been uncooperative with the investigation.
Joel's mother Toni and his best friend Chris are pleading anyone with information on Slim's whereabouts to come forward.
Slim, described as a tall, thin white man with distinctive sideburns, was last sighted in the Kimberly area but is believed to have ties to the Okanagan region. With Slim's knowledge crucial to unravelling the events leading to Joel's death, authorities urge caution but implore anyone with information to contact them immediately.
To anyone with information regarding Joshua Freeman, the other person of interest, or the case in general, please call 1-877-987-8477. If sighted, do not approach; instead, contact authorities promptly by dialling 911.

In this episode, we delve into the perplexing disappearance of Lawrence Maitland from the heart of Lax Kw'alaams, a remote village in British Columbia. It has now been over four years since Lawrence mysteriously vanished, leaving his family and the police with more questions than answers.
Lawrence was last spotted in mid-July of 2019, pushing his bicycle along Victoria Street. What makes his case even more baffling is the circumstances surrounding his disappearance. His keys and wallet were found untouched in his home, doors unlocked and lights still on.
From the very beginning, law enforcement suspected foul play, and the North District Major Crime Unit was brought in to assist the Prince Rupert RCMP. Yet, despite their relentless efforts, Lawrence Maitland remains missing, leaving his family in a painful limbo of uncertainty.
In this episode, we hear from Lawrence's family members, who passionately plead for anyone with information to come forward. They firmly believe that someone out there holds the key to solving this mystery and bringing their loved one home.
Lawrence Maitland is described as a 44-year-old Indigenous man, standing at 5'9" and weighing 187 lbs. He has distinctive features, including slicked-back black hair and a black goatee.
If you have any information that could shed light on Lawrence Maitland's disappearance, please contact the Prince Rupert RCMP at (250) 627-0700. On January 7th, 2015, a tragic event unfolded in Wyses Corner, Nova Scotia, leaving an indelible mark on a local family. The lives of Bill, Ida, and Ann Ward were tragically cut short when they were discovered deceased in their Wyses Corner residence following a house fire. However, the fire itself was not the cause of their untimely deaths. The unfortunate incident was linked to 30-year-old Codey Hennigar, who happened to be Ann's son and the grandson of Bill and Ida. Codey had been grappling with untreated schizophrenia while residing on the Wyses Corner property, leading to this heartbreaking outcome. This case prompts us to confront a challenging question: Is there ever a justifiable circumstance in which we should administer medication to an adult against their will?

Flames could be seen coming from an industrial area outside of Toronto, Ontario.
As officers and firefighters approached the fire, they could make out a pile of fully engulfed tires. The fire had all the hallmarks of an intentional blaze.

Inside the case were the remains of a teenage girl and a mystery that would take decades to unravel.

In yet another Canadian true-crime podcast eclipse, we sit down with Jordan Bonaparte of the Nighttime Podcast to have a discussion about the unsolved murder of 11-year-old Geraldine Settee.
The murder of Geraldine Settee is one of the oldest unsolved MMIWG cases in modern Canadian history.
On January 1, 1970, Geraldine, an 11-year-old girl of Métis heritage, was murdered while she walked to the store to buy candy in a Winnipeg suburb.
Although an arrest was made, the suspect was released.
For over half of a century, The Settee Family has been left without answers.
What caused this case to fall apart and remain cold for so long?

An infamous stretch of road in northern British Columbia has become known as “The Highway of Tears”
For decades people have gone missing or been murdered along the remote highway.
The victims are primarily indigenous women and girls.
But in 1989 an entire family went missing.
Ronald Jack, his partner Doreen and their 2 children Ryan and Russel were last seen in the city of Prince George, British Columbia.
Ronald had met a man in a bar that gave him an offer that seemed too good to be true.
This is the story of The Jack Family.

Amherst, Nova Scotia was home to a haunting that has still not been completely explained to this day. Esther Cox began experiencing unexplained phenomena in late August 1878 after being assaulted by a local man named Bob MacNeil. Bob fled the village after the attack however the manifestations of a poltergeist haunted Esther Cox for more than a year. For much of this time, Esther lived with family and friends who also witnessed the hauntings. Many credible people including local business owners, a physician, and clergy claim to have also witnessed the events. The experiences of Esther Cox became known as the “The Great Amherst Mystery."

Amanda Zhao was the pride and joy of her family. Her dream to be educated in Canada was a symbol of a better future for her and her parents.
Sadly that dream came to an end when the 20 year old woman’s body was found on October 20, 2002.
She had been murdered by her boyfriend Ang Li.
Following her death, her family found themselves caught in a kind of purgatory between two posturing governments and two very different justice systems.
Would justice be found for Amanda Zhao and her family?

UPDATE: Teagan Coutts was returned to her father on December 23rd 2021 and is no longer missing.
--
On July 8th, 2021, a 7-year-old Calgary child named Teaghan Coutts, was witnessed boarding a plane from Vancouver to Turkey with her abductors by her side.
Her abductors, Louanne Bass-Hassan and Mostafa Mohammed Hassan are known to the little girl.
They are her maternal grandparents.
Using forged documents and other illegal means the grandparents smuggled the Canadian girl out of the country undetected. It is believed that their final destination is Egypt.
More frustrating was the fact that this was not their first attempt.
Canada-wide warrants have been issued for the arrest of the grandparents.
At home in Calgary, her father, Justin Coutts, is fighting international and local jurisdictions to bring his daughter home.
Help us as we join the fight to Bring Teaghan Home

Thanks to the Laura Palmer podcast Island Crime: “Where is Lisa” the disappearance of Lisa Marie Young is one of the most talked-about missing persons cases in Canada.
On the Canada Day weekend in 2002, Lisa Marie Young, a 21-year-old First Nations woman, went out to a Nanaimo nightclub to celebrate a friend’s birthday.
While outside of the club Lisa and her friends met a man in a red Jaguar. He offered to take Lisa and her friends to a house party.
In the early morning hours of June 30th, the man with the Jaguar allegedly drove Lisa to get some food. She has not been seen since.
Despite the driver of the Jaguar being positively identified, the RCMP investigation has stalled over the years.
Until recently.
This episode includes interviews with MMIWG Advocate and Lisa Marie Young family friend Cyndy Hall as well as Lisa’s aunt and MMIWG Advocate Carol Frank.
We will walk through the investigation from multiple angles and present what is known about this file.
We also break down MP Paul Manley’s recent speech about Lisa Marie Young in the House of Commons, which brought awareness to her case at the highest levels of government in Canada.
Join us for this important episode as True North True Crime joins the movement to find justice for Lisa Marie Young.

Tanner Krupa’s murder remains unsolved. Can you help?
In the early morning hours of Sunday, August 20th, 2017 the body of a young man was found in a laneway in Surrey, British Columbia. The local RCMP, who are used to escalating gang violence in the area, were immediately perplexed as to the ID of the 19-year-old. He was not known to the police. He was not even from British Columbia.
1100kms away in Edmonton, Alberta a family and a mother were about to receive the most devastating news possible. Their son, brother, and friend had tragically lost his life in the darkness of that summer night.
But why? Why him? And more importantly who did this?
If you have any information about this case, call IHIT or your local police department. To remain anonymous call Crimestoppers.

On May 27, 2021, Canadians collectively sat back in horror at the discovery of the bodies of 215 Indigenous children. Their remains were found in an unmarked burial site on the grounds of a now-closed residential school in Kamloops British Columbia.
As we live in the dark shadow of this news, a 16-year-old First Nations boy has been missing for 3 years.
The young teen was released from Government care to his mother on May 2nd, 2018. The very next day he seemed to just vanish. He has never been found. Stories like the one we are about to tell have lead many people to ask if a comparison can be made with the history of Residential Schools and the present-day system of the Government apprehension of Indigenous children.
This episode is not just a story about a missing child. It is a story about a system. It's also the story of a mom fighting to see her son again. This is the disappearance of Colten Fleury. Thank you for listening!

On April 27th, 2016 Dana Bosch said goodbye to her 27 year old son, Dane. Dane had just spent some time with Dana while he detoxed off of opiates. He was heading back to his own home on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, to pack up his belongings and prepare to start a new life. A sober life.
Dana looked at her son one last time and felt the urge to take a photo. But she knew how rough he felt in that moment. “There will be better days ahead. Happier days. Days where we can take lots of photos.”, she thought. Just over a week later, on Mothers Day, Dana did not receive a phone call from her son.
She knew immediately that something was wrong. This is the disappearance of Dane Stanway.
