Has the Zodiac Killer Finally Been Identified? Nov 10, 2021

Show notes

The Zodiac Killer began his killing spree in the 1960s in Northern California, killing at least 5 people, potentially as many as 37. And despite calling in the murders and leaving taunting letters and codes for police and newspapers, he has never been caught. This week, Amy and Chris bring you up to speed on the bombshell news dropped by a group of detectives and investigators called The Case Breakers. They claim to have found the true identity of the Zodiac Killer, a man called Gary Poste who matches the description and was around the areas at the time of the many murders. They've even connected him to another unsolved mystery, the murder of Cheri Jo Bates before the first confirmed Zodiac killing.Amy and Chris bring you all the evidence that The Case Breakers say confirm Gary is Zodiac, as well as why many others still have their doubts. Gary Poste died in 2018, so if he was the infamous killer, he can't be brought to justice. But is it possible that the Zodiac is still out there walking free?Get 10% off your first month by visiting our sponsor at BetterHelp.com/recapsVisit BUYRAYCON.com/recaps today to unlock exclusive deals up to 20% off your Raycon order!Take your FREE in-depth hair consultation and get 15% off your first order today by going to Prose.com/TRUE Send your true crime suggestions to hello@truecrimerecaps!Don’t forget to subscribe to the podcast for free wherever you're listening or by using this link: https://bit.ly/TrueCrimeRecapsPodcastIf you want to support the show, and get all the episodes ad-free go to https://truecrimerecaps.supercast.tech/If you like the show, telling a friend about it would be helpful! The Amazon Review Killer Oct 20, 2021

Show notes

Chances are that you've probably made a purchase on Amazon.com based on a glowing review. But sometimes those reviews hide something sinister. This week, Amy and Chris talk you through the terrifying case of Todd Kohlhepp, otherwise known as the Amazon Review Killer due to him leaving reviews on the popular commerce site for items that he used to murder at least 7 people. Todd was caught after they were able to track down a missing woman, Kala Brown, to his property. Kala was found chained inside of a storage container and having endured untold horrors for weeks. This opened an investigation into Todd that revealed a pattern of kidnapping people, locking them into a storage container, and torturing them. In between torturing and murdering people, Todd would leave reviews on Amazon for shovels, chainsaws, and other implements of death.Todd was convicted of 7 murders, but Todd has claimed many times that there are far more unidentified victims out there.Send your true crime suggestions to hello@truecrimerecaps!Support the show AND listen ad-free here!: https://truecrimerecaps.supercast.tech/Follow TCR on YouTube here!Follow TCR on Instagram here!Follow TCR on Facebook here! Killer Moms - Darlie Routier, Diane Downs & Andrea Yates Oct 13, 2021

Show notes

This week, Amy and Chris profile 3 women who were all convicted of murdering their own children in gruesome fashion. In the first case, Chris discusses the murder of 5-year-old Damon Routier in 1996. Darlie Routier, Damon's mother, called 911 claiming that someone broke in and stabbed her and her children. But several inconsistencies led to Darlie being convicted of the murder and sentenced to death. Seems like an open and shut case, but there are many that believe Darlie is innocent and should be let out of prison. Darlie's other son Devon was also murdered, but Darlie was not tried for his death. In the second case, Amy discusses the case of Elizabeth Diane Downs who attempted to kill all of her children just to maintain an affair. Diane staged an attempted carjacking, shooting all her children and herself, then slowly drove them to a hospital. Her 7-year-old daughter Cheryl, was killed and her other 2 surviving children were permanently injured. And finally, arguably the most famous case of infanticide, Chris details the tragic case of Andrea Yates, the woman who drowned her children in the bathtub in Texas, claiming that Satan had instructed her to do so. The True Stories Behind Candyman Credits Sep 29, 2021

Show notes

If you've watched the recent iteration of the "Candyman" film, you might've been intrigued by the post-credits scene involving cryptic animations. Well, as you may have guessed, there are some truly horrendous true crime stories showcased, and Amy and Chris do a deep dive so you don't have to.The first case is of 14-year-old George Stinney, who became the youngest person ever executed in the United States for the murder of 2 young girls after he confessed. George had to be propped up on a Bible in order to reach the electric chair, but it is now clear that his confession was coerced from him through the use of starvation and other nefarious techniques. In the second case, Chris details the truly gruesome hate crime against James Byrd, who was tortured and lynched by dragging him around in their truck by 3 white supremacists after offering James a ride across town. This senseless act sparked outrage in the community and led to 2 of the 3 men being sentenced to death, the first case in modern Texas history of white men being sentenced to death for the killing of a black person. And in the final case, Amy and Chris bring you the case that inspired both the 1994 and 2021 versions of the film, the murder of Ruthie Mae McCoy. Ruthie had severe mental illness and was known around town for talking to herself and yelling at passersby. On April 22, 1987, attackers entered her home through a secret entrance behind her bathroom cabinet and murdered Ruthie while she called 911. When police arrived and no one answered, they simply left without checking on Ruthie. The case remains unsolved to this day.Plus, Amy and Chris leave you with some interesting facts surrounding the Candyman films.Send your true crime suggestions to hello@truecrimerecaps!Support the show AND listen ad-free here!: https://truecrimerecaps.supercast.tech/Get 10% Off by visiting BetterHelp.com/recapsIf you’re ready to save money on your Doordash orders, DoorDash is offering a FREE MONTH for DashPass right now!Follow TCR on YouTube here!Follow TCR on Instagram here!Follow TCR on Facebook here!
