Devil in the Dark Apr 11, 2019

Show notes

Essential Star Trek.

Almost everyone has their own definition, but almost every Trek fan believes that this episode should be on that list--and we agree completely.

"The Devil in the Dark" tells a story that speaks to the very heart of Star Trek and was some of the best science fiction produced for television then or now.

We'll discuss why this episode is so truly amazing and why it still is one of Trek's best outings and why it has stood the test of time.

Plus, we've got news and your exclusive FanSets discount code this week on The Biggest Little Show This Side of the Alpha Quadrant!

How to Be a Star Trek Fan Apr 03, 2019

Show notes

Social Media.

It brings out the best and worst in people. This can be especially true of Star Trek fandom. The loudest voices are a small minority trying to impact the fandom of others.

That's why we're here!

We'll tell you about why Star Trek fandom is so great and how to enjoy this thing we all love even more. We aren't doing this alone, though.

We put out the call to our Official Facebook Group, Camp Khitomer, for help! You'll get to hear from some of the Campers on what Star Trek means to them, and why fandom is so important.

The Women of Star Trek Mar 27, 2019

Show notes

One of the reasons we love Star Trek is because of its incredible and amazingly strong women that have been a part of the franchise since the very beginning.

Characters. Actors. Writers. Producers. Directors. Artists.

They've all contributed to a rich tapestry for more than half a century and Star Trek wouldn't be what it is today without every single one of them.

This week, we'll look at the characters that have helped shape this franchise at every turn. From Lieutenant Uhura to Michael Burnham, we'll discuss the characters that we feel are among the most ground breaking and those that have come to mean a lot to us.

Obviously, there's no way we could discuss them all in a single Trek Geeks episode, so we'll spend the next year celebrating the contributions of women in Star Trek in every capacity.

Plus, we'll have a special bonus segment with our dear friend, Lew Halboth, from FanSets to announce their brand new Women of Star Trek master set which will debut this summer at STLV---and how you could help determine future pins in this series!

Carbon Creek Mar 21, 2019

Show notes

April 5, 2063.

Bozeman, Montana.

First Contact between Humans and the visitors from Vulcan.

...or...was it?

Turns out in 1957, the initial contact we never knew about occurred in Pennsylvania when a Vulcan ship crash landed in the woods outside a small town in the eastern United States.

This week, we'll take a look at Carbon Creek from Star Trek: Enterprise's second season. T'Pol's second foremother was part of a group of Vulcans stranded in a Pennsylvania mining town in 1957. We'll see how they assimilated into life in a small town filled with lots of humans.

We'll discuss what makes this episode so great and why we love it.

The Killing Game Mar 05, 2019

Show notes

Back in October of 2018, we met our new friend Emilie at Northeast TrekCon in Albany, NY. We asked her to tell us her favorite Voyager episode and she didn't wait very long to tell us it was the two-part epic, "The Killing Game," from Star Trek: Voyager's fourth season.

We told her that we'd cover that episode just for her and that's what we're doing this week!

Then, we gave her homework. We asked Emilie to leave us a voicemail telling us WHY The Killing Game was her favorite Voyager episode.

So, this week, hear in her own words why this episode is so great, and then you'll hear us break it down--and, is there ever a lot to talk about! Holograms, Hirogen, and...Klingons?! Yep---KLINGONS!

2018 Outtakes Special, Part II Jan 22, 2019

Show notes

The New Year is only a couple of weeks old and we thought we'd put together some special bonus content in the form of outtakes before we return with an all-new episode next week!

Many of you know that following the end theme of every podcast episode, there is an outtake–something that we talked about either immediately before or after recording that week's show.

Some of you have heard them, and some of you haven't, so we assembled a collection of all our clips from 2018 in not one, but TWO Supplemental Episodes of Trek Geeks! We had such great response to last year's Outtakes Special, that we doubled up on it this year, and we hope you enjoy it.

We hope that you all have the happiest of holidays and a safe and Happy New Year!
