Episode 13: In the midst of dance practice, soccer games, church activities, school, work, and the craziness of life, it is easy to lose sight of keeping Christ the center of your life. In Joshua chapter 4 we are told that Joshua set up memorial stones so the Israelites could tell their children the stories and testimonies of when God came through on their behalf. Gabe and Evie talk about creating memorials to share with your kids the things God has done in your life and how to bring them along on your journey of growth in Christ.

Episode 12: Christians are commissioned to go and make disciples of all nations beginning in their home. Our children have been given to us by God to do life with us for 18+ years. Parents have been commissioned by Jesus to use those years to disciple their children to love Jesus and surrender to his will. In this episode we discuss what the end goal of discipling our children should be while giving a practical step by step guide to teach your child how to meet with Jesus.

Episode 11: At the core of healthy and effective discipline, there must be teaching, training, consistency, and dedication to shepherding your child's heart. A child left to themselves is usually a miserable child. In the same way, a parent that does not discipline with the child's best interest in mind is not providing a healthy environment. Gabe and Evie share their thoughts and stories on training during the toddler ages as well as give some valuable resources for parents who want to parent as Jesus would.

Episode 9: One of our greatest desires as Christian parents is that our children will grow up to love Jesus with all their heart, mind, and strength. But there is no guarantee that they will. Each child has been honored by God to be able to choose or deny him. Yet as parents, we play the most significant human role in our child's life in influencing them to pursue their own relationship with the Lord. This is a heavy responsibility! Christian parents tend to either force Christianity on their children by mandatory bible reading or forced devotional time or we tend to go the opposite direction and separate our faith from our day to day life at home and hope that church, youth group, or other Christian friends will be enough to get our kids to be radical lovers of Jesus. We believe both these extremes are unhelpful. This week we are going to talk about creating an atmosphere of prayer and worship in our home where we can invite our children to participate with us as we devote time and space in our life to pray and worship.
(2 Sa 6:11) So the ark of Yahweh remained in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite for three months, and Yahweh blessed Obed-Edom and all his household.

Ask The Kids Dec 30, 2018
    Show notes

Episode 8: In this weeks episode we “Ask the Kids” about parenting. Evie and I bring on our two oldest children to ask them questions about our parenting. Their answers were brutally honest and informative for us. Why would we do that? Well, who better to check in with than your own kids when it comes to seeing how you are really doing as a parent. Asking questions of our children like, “What could I do better as a parent?” or “What’s an area I could improve on in being a parent to you?” are loaded questions. They are loaded with really good information for us that we can use to improve our parenting skills. Our boys are 15 and 13 years old so they are a great age to dialogue about this sort of stuff because they’ve been around us long enough to give us good feedback on our parenting job. I think every parent should check in with their kids every so often to get insight on their parenting job.
Parenting Hack: Evie shares a tip on how to get young children to hold onto the shopping cart while shopping in the store.

Your Greatest Challenge Is Your Greatest Gift Dec 03, 2018
    Show notes

    Episode 5:

Your greatest challenge is your greatest gift. You probably didn’t understand the different levels of challenges parenting children can have when you first started out. We’ve all been at our wit's end, where our patience runs thin and that little twitch in our eye begins to act up again.

This sort of experience is exactly what scripture talks about when it says, “Rejoice in sufferings because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character, and character, hope (Romans 5:4).
Those sleepless nights when the baby won’t stop crying is your greatest gift.
Those moments where little Jonny is throwing a tantrum because his peas touched his toast, is your greatest gift.
Your preteen who suddenly knows everything there is in the world and knows for certain that you don’t, is your greatest gift.
These are all God’s plan to cultivate the image of Christ in you. They are specifically tailored for you to learn self-control, patience, love, and joy in the midst of trials.

Parenting hack: 4 steps to guide you when a toddler throws a tantrum.

    1. Don’t panic, this is normal
    2. Figure out what the problem is
    3. Remember kids can get cranky when they are hungry, tired, or if there is a basic need that is not being met
    4. Put them in their room until they calm down

After you help them calm down, instruct them what to do correctly the next time the situation comes up.
