    Emily shares her early childhood family trajedy of losing her father, a 1934 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy who was subsequently "lost", along with his entire flight crew, in the infamous "Bermuda Triangle" towards the close of WWII; her early years of nursing at a time when "doctors were Kings" (and nurses their "subjects"); the social challenges of entering into an mixed race marriage in the early 1970s and raising children in the formally segregated south right at the start of integration.

Her professional career in education provided her an advantage point to shape the future. She discusses teen suicide and social pressures for kids today and the role of educators to help them navigate the landscape. She talks about her fears as an African American today.

    After feeling unfilled in several jobs, a friend asked Rae what she would really like to do and she answered, out of the blue, “Be a writer.” That statement turned out to be utterly life changing. She talks about how she crafts her women character-driven books and how she utilizes her life experiences as a fiction writer. She also gives important advice to young women. Rae Meadows is the author of 4 novels and recipient of the 2019 Goldenberg Prize for Fiction, the 2018 Hackney Literary Award for the novel, and a finalist for the 2018 Manchester Fiction Prize.     Growing up in a privileged family, her world fell apart when her Father's businesses went bankrupt. She was19 at the time. Her life changed forever. She was raised in the fast food business in Kansas City. Her family owned two restaurant chains: Allens and Smaks. They did 32 million hamburgers in 15 years. When she was in college, her father told her she could not continue as they had lost everything and sadly had to live off of the trust money of all of the kids. She dug deep and rose above it all to became a product marketing guru. She is the author of My Living Legacy, a a personal journal to guide loved ones which is available on the SHOP page of Trailblazersimpact.com. After losing her husband to pancreatic cancer, Susan felt lost. She found her solace in unleashing her passion in art that can hopefully make a difference! Her program is called iPlaid.
