TraegerMethod Episode 6 with Pete Chramiec Dec 06, 2020
    Show notes

Jason was living in Reno with Kevin Seconds in 1986 when Pete's band Verbal Assault pulled into town on their first tour, they have been good friends ever since.

Episode 6's freewheeling conversation starts with a description of Pete's 1982 "Quest for MacKaye" bus adventure to Washington D.C. where he met Ian and Alec's mom before ever encountering the brothers. From there we go to him getting punched in the face by Boston hardcore royalty, the shape of Rhode Island punk in that formative period, revelations provided by early MTV and an extended recollection of the two month North American tour they went on together in 1986 ...though Pete swears it was 1987.

Topics avoided in this episode: How Pete lost his virginity and The Fink family's rules relating to the consumption of sugary snacks.

This is a fun talk. The first of many I hope, with Pete Chramiec.

TraegerMethod Episode 5 with Martin Sprouse Dec 04, 2020
    Show notes

In this episode the friends talk about how Jason used to hang out with Milo from the Descendents when he was in high school and Milo was in college. The two discuss the punk/cholo style common in their San Diego punk circle. In doing so Martin explains what 'Wino' shoes are. This talk leads to a discussion of Suicidal Tendencies and the time Mike Muir called his house and spoke to his mom.

We get a little more information about Martin and Pat's 1982 trip to see the Misfits in Compton. Martin shares the part of the story Pat forgot last episode. The part about being held and searched by 14 Long Beach police officers. We also hear about Pat learning to drive after Martin has his nose exploded at an SSDecontrol show in Santa Monica.

    Thank you for listening.

TraegerMethod Episode 4 with Patrick Weekend Nov 30, 2020
    Show notes

In episode 4 Jason talks with his friend of 30+ years Patrick Weekend. He and last episode's guest Martin Sprouse started The Leading Edge fanzine in 1983 and were the first two people Jason met when he moved from Tacoma, Wa. to San Diego that same year.

Along with stories of the 'Slow Death' (San Diego) and LA punk scenes of the early 80's, the two get into Pat's exploration of the West Coast rap scene that was emerging parallel to punk rock in that same era. Beyond music talk they reflect on tender experiences with their first girlfriends, falling in love while maintaining journals as surprisingly sensitive, music obsessed teenage kids.

TraegerMethod Episode 3 with Martin Sprouse Nov 27, 2020
    Show notes

This episode is a conversation between Jason and one of his oldest, dearest friends and a fellow veteran of the west coast punk scene of the early 80's, Martin Sprouse. They talk about the abundance of talented artists associated with the 'Slow Death' punk scene of the late 70's/early 80's as exemplified by influential figures like Shawn Kerri and Mad Marc Rude. They go on to discuss other important figures in the generation of SD punks that came just before their own. Of course it wouldn't be an episode about SD punk in the early 80s without sharing stories of the violence and mayhem that were an integral part of the experience of that era.

TraegerMethod theme by Jason. Bumper music in this episode taken from early SD bands 5150 and Manifest Destiny from Cliff Cunningham's 'Our Blow Out' cassette compilation from 1983.

TraegerMethod Episode 2 with Paul Schlesinger Nov 24, 2020
