Kevin Lee is a part of both NBC Sports Network’s IndyCar coverage and the IndyCar Radio Network, while Curt Cavin is now a VP at IndyCar after 30 years covering all things racing for the Indianapolis Star.     Kevin and Curt dive into silly season updates involving Pietro Fittipaldi, Helio Castroneves joins, and more Oct 25, 2023
    Show notes

    Tonight, on Trackside with Kevin Lee and Curt Cavin, they talk about Pietro Fittipaldi’s announcement that he is signing with Rahal for the 2024 season. The two also talk about Juri Vipps, and the role he will play in the team. They also talk about the health of the Juncos Team and Agustín Canapino, who will race for them again next year. The two bring up Ed Carpenter and who will take over the road course program for ECR this year. Curt and Kevin also talk about the overall pricing for the Thermal Club race and the scarcity of tickets.

    Later in the first hour of the show, the two recap the Indy NXT test at IMS, and give some rundowns on who stood out. The two also talk about Jamie Chadwick and the possibility of her competing in IndyCar soon.

    Kevin rounds out the first hour talking about the reason IndyCar pit reporters no longer wear fire suits, and F1’s hostility to an Andretti F1 team.

    In the second hour of the show, Kevin and Curt talk to Helio Castroneves. Castroneves talks about training rookie drivers that are coming into the sport, how Kyle Larson and Tony Kanaan have gotten along, and how overwhelming driving an IndyCar for the first time can be.

    Indy NXT driver Louis Foster joins the show to recap his season, some of the mistakes he has made and learned from throughout his career, and what he likes about Indiana.

    In the final half hour of the program, Kevin closes out the show talking about a new show that he will appear on.

    Kevin and Curt Discuss Kyle Larson's Rookie Orientation + Silly Season Rumors! Oct 18, 2023
    Show notes

    Tonight, on Trackside with Kevin Lee and Curt Cavin, they discuss the rookie orientation that Kyle Larson went through last week at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. They dive into some of the things after he experienced driving an IndyCar for the first time, debate if Tony Kanaan would be Larson’s emergence driver if he misses the start of a race or must leave a race early because of NASCAR.

    Later in the first hour of the show, Kevin and Curt access the talent level of some of the other new rookie drivers after seeing how they drove in rookie orientation last week. Additionally, Kevin answers some Twitter questions from listeners giving him suggestions on how to better promote IndyCar.

    In the second hour of the show, Kevin and Curt discuss the journey Robert Wickens has been on with him winning the IMSA class title at Road Atlanta. They also try to predict who will be the final driver for some teams that have yet to be announced and get into some silly season rumors that Kevin has heard across all the teams in IndyCar, Indy NXT, and ISMA.

    In the final half hour of the program, Kevin and Curt answer some of your Twitter questions and highlight the upcoming racing from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend!

    Kevin and Curt Preview the IndyCar Rookie Test, Kyle Larson, and More Legal Battles Oct 10, 2023
    Show notes

    Tonight, on Trackside with Kevin Lee and Curt Cavin, there’s more racing on the oval! The annual IndyCar rookie test is this weekend and Curt and Kevin preview some of the drivers who will make turn some laps. They also talk about Kyle Larson turning his first laps in an IndyCar at the test. The two looks at the weather conditions for the day and what to expect from the hybrid motor in testing. They delve into legal matters involving Romain Grosjean. Following that, they talk about where Grosjean may end up for next year.

    Later in the first hour of the show, Kevin and Curt discuss Robert Wickens’ performance in the Michelin Pilot Challenge. Kevin gives an update on how the sports car race at IMS went over the weekend and how his son Jackson performed. Curt previews a new event coming to IMS that will really shine, and how the event will benefit the track. The two also answer some fan questions. In the final segment of the hour, the two talk about the announcement of a new NASCAR game coming out created by the iRacing crew.

    In the second hour of the show, Kevin and Curt talk to Indy NXT driver Christian Rasmussen. Rasmussen gives us some insight on what it’s like to compete in the Indy NXT series, financial struggles, and his goals in motorsports. Rasmussen also talks about how he will compete in LMP2 at Petit Le Mans.

    In the final half hour of the program, Kevin and Curt talk to Brian Barnhart about the upcoming rookie orientation at IMS this weekend. Barnhart talks about how they will handle Kyle Larson’s test and discuss how similar and different it will be to Kurt Busch’s test several years ago. The two speculate as to how Larson will handle driving an IndyCar for the first time. Kevin ends the show reading off some broadcast suggestions from listeners.

    Kevin and Curt talk about NASCAR racing at Iowa will affect IndyCar, Andretti F1 hopes, and more! Oct 04, 2023
    Show notes

    Tonight, on Trackside with Kevin Lee and Curt Cavin, they discuss NASCAR’s announcement that they will be racing at Iowa a few weeks before IndyCar will race there, and how as a promoter, it is hard to have two major races that close together. They also talk about NASCAR going back on the oval for the Brickyard 400.

    Later in the first hour of the show, Kevin and Curt talk about the BC39, and how Justin Grant won it all after a rain out. They also delve into some silly season driver changes including a partnership between Arrow-McLaren and Juncos Hollinger racing. They also talk about driver changes that Arrow-McLaren may make at Juncos. They answer some fan questions as well.

    In the second hour of the show, Kevin and Curt talk about Andretti’s bid to start an F1 team. They talk about the hurdles the team will face, but also talk about the positives and the overall likelihood of the F1 team coming to fruition. They also discuss a possible deal between Apple and F1 that may lead to F1 going to a streaming service in the future. The two talk about Alex Palou’s legal troubles and how much money he could lose in a lawsuit.

    In the final half hour of the program, the two talk about the non-championship event in Argentina and whether it will come to fruition. Kevin also answers a few more fan questions.

    Kevin and Curt Dissect 2024 NTT IndyCar Series Schedule + Logan Seavey and David Kallman Join! Sep 27, 2023
    Show notes

    Tonight, on Trackside with Kevin Lee and Curt Cavin, they discuss yesterday’s 2024 NTT IndyCar Series schedule release featuring more ovals with Texas Motor Speedway being removed from the schedule, and then get into the potential problems the series could run into when factoring in NASCAR’s schedule for next season.

    Later in the first hour of the show, Kevin and Curt dive into specific race dates and then the upcoming TV broadcasting rights for IndyCar. They look at things from the perspective of IndyCar and NBC.

    In the second hour of the show, Kevin and Curt discuss the news of Kyle Kirkwood being extended by Andretti Autosport earlier in the day. Also, Kevin is joined by USAC driver Logan Seavey to discuss his best racing career to date, explains what has led to him being consistently dominant this season, and the advantage he has with equipment because his team follows up with his requests.

    In the final half hour of the program, Dave Kallman from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel joins Curt Cavin to explain IndyCar’s return to Milwaukee, the changes to the track that will be made in order to accommodate a doubleheader, and why they couldn’t schedule the race while the state fair is going on.

    Kevin and Curt Discuss Driver and Schedule Silly Season! Sep 20, 2023
    Show notes

    Tonight, on Trackside with Kevin Lee and Curt Cavin, they discuss the news of 18-year-old Kyffin Simpson being promoted from Indy NXT to Chip Ganassi Racing as their fifth full-time driver in 2024. They discuss the comments Chip Ganassi made prior to Simpson being added to their team, highlight some other drivers that could be in play for the final spot with Ed Carpenter Racing, and provide an update on where things are at right now between Alex Palou and Arrow McLaren Racing.

    Later in the first hour of the show, Kevin and Curt question who returns next season in the NTT IndyCar Series will be. They also speculate as to who they think will end up with Dale Coyne Racing and Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. Also, they answer some Twitter questions.

    In the second hour of the show, Kevin takes over to recap the first hour of the show. He also provides some silly season rumors regarding the schedule for the 2024 season and explains some complications that the series will have with the Olympics next year. Additionally, Kevin takes some time discussing the broadcast rights for IndyCar.

    In the final half hour of the program, Jackson Lee joins the program to discuss where he’s going to be racing shortly and how it’ll benefit him as a coach.

    Kevin and Curt Recap 2023 NTT IndyCar Season! Sep 13, 2023
    Show notes

    Tonight, on Trackside with Kevin Lee and Curt Cavin, they recap Scott Dixon winning his third race in the final four of the season, highlight how some of the drivers performed in the season finale, examine some of the penalties that were handed out in the race, and highlight some of the various pit strategies from teams.

    Later in the first hour of the show, Kevin and Curt access how some of the drivers that don’t have a spot in the series next season performed in their final IndyCar race. They also try to figure out if there was a driver who did not get hit at all during the race.

    In the second hour of the show, they take a step back to look at where some drivers finished this season. Kevin and Curt examine which drivers have an easier avenue in terms of racing in the series next year because sponsors love them, and which drivers have budget to back them.

    In the final half hour of the program, they answer a bunch of Twitter questions pertaining to the race, the future of drivers in the series, and open testing that IndyCar will do between now and the start of the season.

    Kevin and Curt Discuss Alex Palou's Dominance This Season + Recap Portland Race! Sep 06, 2023

    Tonight, on Trackside with Kevin Lee and Curt Cavin, they congratulate Alex Palou on capturing his second series championship within the last three years. Additionally, they spend time recapping the race by sharing nuggets they wrote down from the race. Finally, they debate if Palou should be the heavy favorite next year to win the series with him returning to Chip Ganassi Racing.

    Later in the first hour of the show, Kevin and Curt highlight some of the driver changes that have occurred the last couple weeks. Plus, Kevin revisits the predictions he made last week as to whom will be racing in what car for that specific team.

    In the second hour of the show, Kevin and Curt dive into the news today that Felix Rosenqvist will be racing in the second car with Meyer Shank Racing in place of Simon Pagenaud. They discuss what the move means for Pagenaud’s career, if he’s able to get back to racing once he makes a recovery. Finally, Kevin reveals the driver that he thought was on the move during last week’s show.

    In the final half hour of the program, they get back to discussing Sunday’s race by highlighting some of the events that happened during the race that had drivers complaining, Kevin revealing what it’s like listening to Alex Palou’s radio during a race and congratulate the champions in the racing leagues below IndyCar.

    Kevin and Curt Recap Scott Dixon Goin Back-to-Back + Examine 2023 Driver/Team Combinations Aug 30, 2023

    Tonight, on Trackside with Kevin Lee and Curt Cavin, they begin the show by highlighting where drivers will be racing in 2023 with Meyer Shank Racing announcing the two drivers that will be driving for them next season. Additionally, Kevin highlights some of the drivers that could be in play to race in the NTT IndyCar Series next season with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing and some other teams too.

    Later in the first hour of the show, Kevin and Curt spend some time recapping Scott Dixon winning his second consecutive race after capturing the checkered flag for the Bommarito 500. Also, they spend some time dissecting the strategies some drivers had during the race to try and finish P1 and some of the complications the race had with scheduling and lack of passing.

    In the second hour of the show, Kevin and Curt highlight the feud that developed last week between Scott McLaughlin and David Malukas after some comments made on the Bus Bros podcast with Josef Newgarden and McLaughlin. This leads to the guys discussing the instance between the two on the track in Sunday’s race. Finally, they dive into what Alex Palou needs to do to win the series after another top ten finish.

    In the final half hour of the program, Kevin provides an update on what his son, Jackson Lee, is up to nowadays in his racing career, answers some Twitter/X questions, and previews the event schedule for this weekend in Seattle for the Bitnile.com Grand Prix of Portland.

How it will probably affect the race this weekend at the Bommarito Automotive Group 500, the possible experiments with oval tracks going on. To close out hour #1, the guys talk about the loss of racing legend Bill Vukovich Jr. They talk about how his family has always suffered tragedy but how he was so inspirational and a great person who will be greatly missed.

    During the second hour of the show, Kevin and Curt discuss Josef Newgarden trying to sweep the oval track season Saturday and how impressive it would be. Also, they touch on the big racing news from today which is Team Penske and AJ Foyt racing working together.

    Finally, the guys get into the Laguna Seca Race coming up and Colton Herta driving a car like his Father used to drive.
