In this video we are working with historical researcher Antony Cummins and we are taking these legends from his new book The Dark Side of Japan. Antony and his team have translated old spells, witchcraft and unknown elements of dark Japanese magic and combined them with a collection of folklore tales which were recorded in the late 19th century. More on the book at the end. The list you are about to see will hopefully be those lesser known legends that are circulating about Japan and as many of you have a great knowledge on Japan we will try to present to you the sections of folklore that need more attention.

Correction: From a medical doctor who is fan of TopTenz, concerning Advil for heart attacks. "I am a family physician, and I was concerned regarding the recommendation presented in the video that people who are concerned they are having a heart attack take Advil. Ibuprofen (brand name Advil), while an NSAID, is not recommended for symptoms of a heart attack. Rather, aspirin is the recommended medication as it inhibits platelet aggregation. Ibuprofen does not do this, and if patients inadvertently take Advil, this could actually worsen damage to the heart and interact adversely with aspirin once they receive this at the hospital to increase risk of bleeding and other complications."

540 - The WW1 Soldiers KIA in a Single Day on the Western Front Jun 19, 2020

Modern warfare casualty numbers are often deceiving as they record how many soldiers can no longer fight not how many were killed. Casualty figures include those Killed In Action (KIA) but they also count those Wounded In Action (WIA), Missing In Action (MIA) and those taken Prisoner of War (POW) as these soldiers are no longer on the unit’s roll call. This is further complicated because a lot of nonfatal wounds that occurred on one day will eventually days later kill the soldier. Prisoners offer the same difficulties as POWs often die in the horrible conditions of the prison camps. For example, during World War II the Nazis were particularly brutal to their Soviet prisoners causing 3.3 to 3.5 million deaths, or 57% of all Soviet POWs.
