Pain management in the perioperative space | EBPOM Ireland Jun 27, 2022
    Show notes

Personalized versus protocolised perioperative pain prediction and management; what are the considerations for a modern practitioner. Where does the data take us? What are the ethics for a responsible value based care approach that seeks to reduce or perhaps even eliminate opioid use? What insights can we glean from a truly transatlantic conversation on these topics? How do we both manage and set expectations for the patient?

This discussion - in its original form - also featured a presentation which you can find here: https://topmedtalk.libsyn.com/website/category/perioperative-pain-control-a-spine-surgeons-perspective-we-have-to-do-better-ebpom-chicago

Improving outcomes of orthopaedic patients | EBPOM Ireland Jun 20, 2022
    Show notes

This piece is an essential contribution to the debate regarding patient centered value based care. Are you able to say you are putting your orthopaedic patients' needs and priorities at the forefront of your practice?

Some of the questions from the online audience include: Is Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) in orthopaedics a step too far? How do patients who have significant arthropathys engage with a prehab program that makes them fitter? Those that successfully complete the program, are they not the ones who probably don't need joint replacement today and rehab might actually look at elongating that reoperative window?

This piece is presented in proud association with the South of Ireland Association of Anaesthetists (SIAA).

"Intraoperative Hypotension Is Associated With Adverse Clinical Outcomes After Noncardiac Surgery" is here: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33177322/
