The Hooters Eric Bazilian - All Us Zombies Sep 10, 2024

Show notes

The Hooters’ Eric Bazilian tells us a bazillion stories including the time he had to skip a flight from L.A. because Ringo Starr wanted to write songs with him; being cheered on by Jack Nicholson as his band took the stage at Live Aid; and offering Pete Townshend a case of beer, a pizza and a deli tray to get The Who to play his daughter’s wedding.

Quick Taps - Crashing Sep 03, 2024

Show notes

When you’re a struggling band on the road, you sometimes have to crash wherever you can like in the homes of potential serial killers who’ve decorated their place with bugs, bloody handprints, and missing teeth. On this Quick Tap, you’ll hear some not-so-relaxing bedtime stories from Palehound’s Elle Kempner, blues guitarist Bex Marshall, James Joseph from James and the Cold Gun, and Michael Deni from Geographer.

Rock 'n' Roll Re-Creation: Styx Drummer Todd Sucherman Aug 20, 2024

Show notes

Influential drummer (and epic storyteller) Todd Sucherman gets multiple rimshots telling us what it was like playing the late night TV circuit with Spinal Tap; why he never wears white when on stage with wild animals; and how surreal it was to play with David Hasselhoff at the Tribute Concert for Princess Diana back in 1998. Todd also spills the tea on the highs and lows of being in a band with Allen.

Quick Taps - License To Kill Aug 13, 2024

Show notes

You may be driven to tears during this episode as Lo Moon’s Matt Lowell recounts the time the guy driving their tour bus searched for their gig using the North Star instead of Google Maps; composer Daniel Davies’ driver decided he was going to drink and drive the 16 hours to Canada without a bathroom break; recording artist Arsun had a European driver who truly believed it’s the journey not the destination; and the inimitable Citizen Cope tells us about the time he was on the road supporting a new record with a driver who had his own type of record - a criminal one.

The State’s David Wain - To Billy Joel or Not To Billy Joel Aug 06, 2024

Show notes

Comedic Renaissance man David Wain from sketch-comedy groups The State and Stella tells us about turning down the chance to see the Nirvana Unplugged show at MTV in 1993; the time his radio executive dad brought the Beatles to Cleveland; and how cool it was to hang out with the Beastie Boys and Smashing Pumpkins at Lollapalooza.

Today We're Gonna Potty Like It's 1999! Jul 23, 2024

Show notes

We’ve had more stories than we care to mention about musicians having to jump through poops, we mean HOOPS, to answer nature’s call on the road. In this special TMEP Show episode, we dropped the kids off at the pool (cuz we had so much work to do) and went deep into the bowels of the TMEP Show archives to squeeze out the very best examples of potty humor — stories from Styx, Sleater-Kinney, Drive-By Truckers, OK Go, and more. So sit back, put down that 2009 issue of Good Housekeeping magazine you’ve read thousands of times while doing your business, and enjoy!

Quick Taps - Barf Flies Jul 16, 2024

Show notes

You may yawn during this episode — technicolor yawn, that is — when WeirDass’ Bob Dassie regurgitates a tale about the time he barfed on the road with Second City’s touring company and got shit for it; Dominique Fils Aime spews a story about her bassist triggering a child’s gag reflex during a gig; and Arsun confides why his nickname could be "upChuck Berry” after a ferry ride from to Ireland.

of Montreal’s Kevin Barnes - The Full Monty-Treal Jul 09, 2024

Show notes

Kevin bares all in this revealing chat about appearing on stage wearing nothing but a cummerbund; stripping off their identity and slipping into their alter ego, Georgie Fruit; but not pulling a Lady Godiva when they brought a horse into the act at the Roseland in New York.
