Permit are described as the hardest fish to catch on the flats. They are my favorite fish to catch and I fish for them more than any other fish. Im not sure that I agree that they are the hardest fish to catch after spending so much time with them. The most effective way to catch permit is with a live crab on spinning gear. The choice of hooks and how to hook the crab to keep it alive the longest can make a huge difference in how many fish you catch. On today’s show, I am on the water with my friend Capt Scott Brown and I show you exactly what hook to use, exactly how to hook the crab and exactly what rig I use. One of the hardest parts of traveling for me is staying in a consistent workout routine. The deck of cards is certainly not my idea and it is not a new idea, but one that I use all the time. I learned this from Ross Enamait (@Rosstraining) but athletes for many years have used a deck of cards to create all kinds of workouts. Ray Lewis is one of many famous and successful athletes who have used a deck of cards for years. The Deck not only gives you a great format to work out without a gym, but also will help to keep you motivated on a daily basis, because you already know what your workout will be. I go over some of my favorite variations of the Deck of Cards and how I use them but the possibilities are literally endless.

He obviously knows a thing or two about how to find these fish, so he breaks down current, wind, and locations for having the most success in a day of targeting sailfish. We also break down rigging rods, having the proper gear ready ahead of time, and some other tricks to have you making the most of your day. Take the tips and techniques used to catch the record number of fish and apply them to your fishing for more success.

PHYSICAL FRIDAY - Pull-up Progression For Safety In The Outdoors Jul 31, 2020

One of the most necessary skills when out on the water is the ability to pull your bodyweight up. Imagine that you get tossed out of the boat. Would you have the strength to pull yourself back up onto the deck? If you fall off the dock, could you get yourself back up? Simply training for this scenario can result in life or death. In this week’s Physical Friday, I walk through some progressions to gradually get anyone to be able to do a full pull-up. Things like elastic bands and olympic rings can help to build up your strength slowly, and then eventually graduate into the full pull-up. Then, you will be strong and confident in the outdoors. This week we had the opportunity to sit down with Tom Anderson, the man behind Burnewiin. Tom is based out of the pacific north west, and has some incredible stories from that area. He originally moved out there for the windsurfing scene, so we discuss that as well as the unique fishing opportunities that the PNW has to offer. From halibut to sturgeon to smallmouth bass, the PNW has a ton to offer and Tom has me itching to get up there and experience it myself.
