Behind the Series: Hard Words, Loving Truths Apr 13, 2023

Show notes

There are two key teachings in the Bible, and the temptation for Christians is to pick one teaching at the expense of the other. Learning how to fully embrace both teachings is the message of Pastor Mike's new sermon series, Hard Words, Loving Truths.

Pastor Mike and Amber Albee Swenson give us a preview of this two-part series, and in the process we learn some of the lies Christians still fall into, the difference between confession and repentance, and why Pastor Mike, when officiating weddings, does NOT look at the bride as she walks down the aisle but rather at the groom.

Hard Words, Loving Truths kicks off this Sunday, April 16.

Pastor Mike and Amber also discuss this month's new book, True Crimes of the Bible by Dr. Bruce Becker. Explore some of Scripture's most shocking tales of corruption, violence, confession, and redemption. You'll investigate cases of horrific sin and extravagant grace as you uncover the truth of God's holiness, justice, mercy, and love. Get this book at timeofgrace.store with your gift to the ministry.

Amber mentions the abortion series on her podcast, Little Things. To listen, just search for "Little Things With Amber Albee Swenson" wherever you get your podcast. The series ran in April 2021. Pastor Mike also preached on abortion in 2021. You can watch this series at https://bit.ly/3UqKJcx

Easter is a massively important deal in Christianity. So then how is it possible that many of us can easily miss it or reach this day without being emotionally and spiritually prepared? Pastor Mike shares how the Bible refuses to let us miss Easter, reminding us of the life we find from an empty grave.

What happens if God doesn't give us the immediate yes we're praying for? Will we still love and praise him? Don't Miss Moments: Jesus Shining Brightly = My Rock Mar 26, 2023

Show notes

When we're on the mountaintop of God's blessings, it's easy to praise him. The big question, Pastor Mike says, is what will happen when we fall down into a valley? How will our faith survive life's challenges and prove that we're not just using God for the mountaintop moments but will still worship him when we're feeling low and in the valley? To do that, we look at when Jesus was on the mountaintop and yet chose to go into the valley.

Don't Miss Moments: Jesus' Perfection = My Perfection Mar 19, 2023

Show notes

God is like a treasure at the end of a tightrope. We have to walk a perfect path to get to the treasure, because if we slip just once, we're done. Unfortunately, we slip often. But that's what makes Jesus so amazing—he gives us a ride across the tightrope, taking each step perfectly to reunite us with God. Yet he was tempted to slip. What would have happened to us if he would have taken the devil's bait and misstepped? Pastor Mike walks us through Jesus' temptation and shows us how, when everything was on the line, Jesus stayed perfect for us.
