    Lisa Bevere Dec 04, 2020

Today on the Thriving Beyond Belief podcast, Lisa Bevere!

Lisa Bevere has spent three decades empowering women of all ages to find their identity and purpose. She is a New York Times bestselling author and internationally known speaker. Her previous books, which include Fight Like a Girl, Lioness Arising, Girls with Swords, Without Rival, and Adamant, are in the hands of millions worldwide. Lisa and her husband John are the founders of Messenger International.

    Do you have a godmother?

If you are anything like I was, my guess is you don't.

As a young Christian, I remember feeling lost trying to navigate my way through marriage, motherhood, and more.

I'd hear things like, "You need a mentor!" but I didn't have the faintest clue where to find one.

It felt like trying to find a unicorn! Where were these mythological creatures willing to give their precious time, energy, and wisdom to help me through life? The women I knew were all in the same boat as me—overwhelmed and trying to survive!

Like so many others, I felt I was on my own.

As I travel and meet with countless women, this frustration seems to be the norm. Perhaps you know the feeling.

    It's time to change that.

I wrote my newest book Godmothers because I see you and I feel your pain.

    I've been there.

I don't have all the answers, but I know that when we come together as women, we can close the gaps in each other's lives.

So pour yourself of cup of tea (or a double shot of espresso), curl up in your favorite chair, and let's have some real talk. As you turn the pages of Godmothers, may you laugh at my mistakes, learn from my successes, and discover God's heart for your season.

And who knows? With a little luck, you may even pick up a few street smarts for the road ahead!

    Love, Lisa

In 2009, Lara Casey—PowerSheets® creator, best-selling author, and mom to three—wrote a blog post ("How to Make Things Happen") in an attempt to answer the many emails she received asking, "how do you do it all?"

The blog post received a flurry of responses, resonating with hundreds of people. It sparked a movement that turned into the Making Things Happen Conference a decade ago, where she continues to lead attendees through our proven process to uncover what truly matters to them and do something about it. Those same principles are in every page of the PowerSheets® Intentional Goal Planner, our cornerstone product that has sparked powerful and positive change in thousands of women's lives across the world.

Recognize her from somewhere else? For 10 years we published the acclaimed print magazine Southern Weddings, encouraging brides to plan meaningful celebrations and even more beautiful marriages. We were honored to partner with the best vendors in the business, including Southern Living Magazine, and to publish a beloved wedding planner you can still buy today. Though SW retired in 2018 so our team could focus on helping women cultivate what matters in every season of life, SW's legacy lives on!

    Kelly Balarie Oct 21, 2020
    Show notes

Welcome Kelly Balarie to the Thriving Beyond Belief podcast!

Now more than ever, we need rest –a deep, trust-centered knowing of God's goodness and peace.

Yet, these days, we are experiencing the opposite: Three out of five people admit to doing more than they can manage. Many are more fearful than ever because of Covid-19. Great amounts of people are under the weight of massive financial burdens. Not only this, but family life, virtual schooling, safety discussions and workplaces are overtaking over sacred home spaces.

Here, we are doing and worrying, more than being with and loving God. The pressure -- is real.

Whereas, we once figured rest was at home, now we realize that quietly tucking ourselves away from projects, people, and the pressures of today, isn't the whole answer… We are still left feeling worried, exhausted, tired, and weary. Distance, days at home and constant solitude don't fill the hole or the desires of our heart.

What is rest? Real rest is soul rest. Soul rest not found from exterior things, but through heartfelt focus, soul-full simplicity and wise communication – all with the goal of fostering love. In this, we can grab hold of what matters most. We become present to God. We find peace. We lay hold of God's goodness. This is rest.

Bestselling author Kelly Balarie believes a more soul-full way of life is available for us all. In her latest book Rest Now: 7 Ways to Say No, Set Boundaries, and Seize Joy, Kelly offers practical "hows" to help rest become a living reality.

In our interview, you'll learn to:

    • create boundaries that allow you to overflow with love
    • say no so you don't hate yourself later
    • ditch passive-aggressive behaviors in favor of healthy conversations that lead to peace
    • embrace permission-giving thoughts to create mental space for God

Rest Now shows us that we no longer have to strive for rest, but we can love from it, like Jesus did. This not only brings rest, but joy – even in the most tumultuous season.

    Balarie says,

"Rest and joy are fully available to us even in this season thanks to Jesus."
