Andrew Gash was the TV adviser at Kathleen High in Lakeland, FL for the past 9 years. He has been involved as both an adviser and a student with the Polk County Video Awards, an event put on by the Polk County Public Schools ITV Department. For four years in a row, his program won the "Best in Show" award for the overall best program within the district. As a student he was the 2006 Polk County TV Production Student of the Year. In addition to discussing his program we do a deep dive into what the Polk County Video Awards are and how it can be something you can use to build community within your district. In our discussion we cover how a local awards ceremony can be a huge motivational factor for your students, how you can think outside of the box and produce creative broadcasts, and the culture of content produced within this county.
